At Neubäuer See, waterside activities and a special natural environment are closely intertwined. When planning your stay, consider whether you want to focus on the beach, getting active or the landscape.

Leisure activities at Neubäuer See

The large beach offers space for swimming and sunbathing. Leisure facilities also include beach volleyball courts, a skate park, outdoor chess and a playground. Alongside spending time by the water, you can choose from other activities, including sports and outdoor games.

Boating and sailing are also possible, and you can go fishing and walking. Regular regattas add to the activities on the lake. Seasonal availability may vary. If a particular activity is important to your trip, check in advance whether it is offered on your dates.

A lake with diverse habitats

Neubäuer See covers 58 hectares and is a rare, nutrient-poor pond ecosystem. Its habitats range from open water and siltation zones to lichen and bog pine forests. This transition shows that the lake is not just a body of water, but also a landscape with different areas of vegetation.

Guided excursions explore the lake’s history, flora and fauna. Dates vary, so check in advance for available dates. This can help you include an excursion in your stay if you would like to learn more about nature.

Getting to the visitor area

The visitor area at Neubäuer See is accessible on foot, by bicycle, by car or by train. If you are travelling by train, it is a good idea to check current connections, as timetable details may change. Choose the travel option that suits your plans and check the relevant information before setting off.

Culture in the wider destination of Roding

The wider destination of Roding has its own cultural and historical attractions. St. Joseph’s Chapel originally served as the baptistery of Roding’s original church, which dates from the 7th or 8th century. Its upper floor, added later, contains 13th- and 14th-century frescoes in the Romanesque and Gothic fresco-secco techniques. St. Anne’s Chapel is built onto the old cemetery wall and replaced an earlier building around 1650. The Roding Dance of Death fresco is also located on the cemetery wall and was probably created around the middle of the 17th century based on an older model.

The Fire Brigade Museum and the Fronfeste Cultural Centre add further cultural highlights in Roding. The museum displays more than 250 historical firefighting appliances, uniforms and documents across two floors. Fronfeste hosts changing exhibitions, theatre, films and cabaret; check the relevant dates for specific events. The Roding Tourist Information Office provides flyers on leisure activities, hiking and cycling maps, and an up-to-date town map. If you would like to use these guides, check their availability in advance.
