Anger can be discovered through very different details: the Hans-Peter Porsche TraumWerk showcases technical miniature landscapes and historic tin toys, while St. Georg and the Vachenlueg pilgrimage chapel offer insights into architectural history and tradition. A walk in the open air at Lake Höglwörth adds another option. If you want to plan your time, you can choose between collections and park attractions, historic buildings and a circuit around the lake.

Model Railway, Tin Toys and Park Railway

The model railway layout at the Hans-Peter Porsche TraumWerk covers 400 m². Landscapes from Germany, Austria and Switzerland form its setting, and more than 200 trains run on the layout. The three countries give the miniature world a clear geographical framework, while the number of trains conveys its scale.

A historic tin toy collection featuring more than 2,100 exhibits from 1860 to 1930 complements this focus. While the model railway depicts landscapes to scale, the collection places individual toys within a specific historical period. The TraumWerk adventure park also includes a playground and a park railway. In addition to the collections, visitors can therefore find specific park facilities to suit their interests.

Architectural History and Tradition

The Romanesque hall church of St. Georg stands on Steinhögl. It was built in the mid-14th century on the site of a castle chapel. Ashlar stones from the remains of Roman or medieval buildings were used in its construction. The church’s architectural style, date of construction and reused stones each give it a distinct historical connection.

A different historical sequence takes centre stage at the Vachenlueg pilgrimage chapel: it was completed in 1848. When the roof structure collapsed in 1824, the shrine containing the miraculous image remained undamaged; pilgrimages to Vachenlueg subsequently increased. The two sites therefore offer different points of interest: St. Georg is notable for its architectural style and older building materials, while Vachenlueg is associated with the collapse, the surviving shrine and the subsequent increase in pilgrimages.

A Walk at Lake Höglwörth

The circuit around Lake Höglwörth is flat and wide, making it suitable for a walk with a stroller. Allow about half an hour for the circuit. The route’s terrain and its approximate duration answer two different planning questions: one describes the route, while the other gives a time estimate. The lake thus complements the collections and historic buildings with a specific opportunity for a walk.

The Wider Region: Berchtesgadener Land

The wider destination of Berchtesgadener Land lies in southeastern Upper Bavaria and stretches from the gently rolling Rupertiwinkel in the north to Berchtesgaden National Park on the border with Austria. To the south, high-alpine mountain landscapes and the natural setting around Lake Königssee are part of this regional landscape. The Berchtesgadener Land Biosphere Region covers the entire district of the same name.

The wider destination’s hiking opportunities also provide useful guidance for planning the rest of your trip: Berchtesgaden National Park offers a diverse network of hiking trails and alpine paths spanning 260 km. Together, these regional details show the range of Berchtesgadener Land—from the gentle hills in the north to the high-alpine landscapes in the south. They complement Anger’s local attractions with an explicitly regional perspective.
