The forest adventure trail on Pfaffenberg, a walk through Aystetten’s history and concerts at the castle reveal different sides of Aystetten. The Welden Railway Cycle Path also connects Aystetten with several towns, continuing as far as Welden. This gives you a choice when planning your trip: interactive nature stations, historic sites, culture or a regional cycling route.
Forest and Interactive Stations
The Aystetten Forest Adventure Trail is on Pfaffenberg, between Aystetten and Hammel. This family-friendly circular trail runs for about three kilometres through the forest and includes numerous interactive stations. The interactive content was developed especially for children; all you need is a smartphone. The trail was renovated and reopened in 2024. Its length and circular route provide a clear framework for your walk, while the stations focus on an active nature experience.
Aystetten’s History and Culture
The Aystetten History Trail is a walk through the town’s past. Stops along the route include Aystetten Castle, Louisenruh Palace and the Steinguth-Fabrique Louisensruh.
To choose based on your interests, consider the contrast: the Forest Adventure Trail combines a family-friendly woodland walk with interactive content developed especially for children; the History Trail is a walk to historic sites. Aystetten therefore offers two different options.
The Aystetten Cultural Circle hosts concerts in the Porcelain Room of Aystetten Castle. The castle thus connects two of the themes mentioned: it is one of the stops on the History Trail and also a concert venue. If attending a concert is important to your plans, check the event dates in advance.
Cycle to the Swabian Holzwinkel
The Welden Railway Cycle Path runs from Neusäß through Aystetten, Horgau and Adelsried to Welden, in the area known as the Swabian Holzwinkel. Unlike the local trails, this route passes through several towns and continues as far as Welden; it is not a circular route in Aystetten.
More Nature and Outdoor Activities in the Wider Augsburg Destination
The wider Augsburg destination offers more nature and outdoor activities. The Bonstetten LandArt Art Trail is a 5.65-kilometre circular hiking trail where the artist Hama Lohrmann personally explains his sculptures. The three-kilometre Meditation Trail runs along the edge of the Schwarzach Valley forest and leads from Oberschönenfeld Cistercian Abbey to Weiherhof. The two hiking trails differ in both length and route: the LandArt trail is circular, while the Meditation Trail runs between the two named destinations. The Augsburg district also has a well-developed network of cycle paths. The Stauden, Holzwinkel and Reischenau areas are part of the Augsburg — Western Woods Nature Park. Westwood Alpacas offers regular alpaca hikes and excursions through the nature park.
Cycling routes also come in two different forms: the Welden Railway Cycle Path follows a specific route through Aystetten to Welden, while the cycle path network in the Augsburg district is a broader infrastructure feature. This lets you consider local trails and regional options separately, depending on the focus of your trip.
