Aldingen offers two distinct experiences: a sporty cycling tour that starts in the valley and a museum without regular opening hours. The tour leads up to the Heuberg and Lemberg near Gosheim, the highest mountain in the Swabian Alb. When planning, it is worth keeping the circular tour, museum visit and broader regional context separate.

Cycling to Lemberg

The sporty Donaubergland Lemberger Höhenrausch cycling tour starts in the valley in Aldingen and leads from there up to the Heuberg and Lemberg near Gosheim. As a circular tour, the Lemberger Höhenrausch passes through Aldingen, Denkingen, Gosheim, Wehingen, Deilingen, Schörzingen, Wilflingen and Frittlingen before returning to Aldingen. The destination description focuses on Lemberg; the circular tour describes the sequence of places and the return to Aldingen.

The published route description was updated in 2022; route conditions may change. Check current conditions before setting out. This keeps your tour planning based on the route as described without assuming that trail conditions remain unchanged.

Visit the Aldingen Museum by appointment

The Aldingen Museum currently has no regular opening hours and can only be visited by appointment, arranged by email at gemeinde@aldingen.de. If you would like to plan a visit, arranging an appointment is the essential next step. This makes the museum quite different from a destination you can visit during regular public opening hours.

Tuttlingen as the broader regional context

The Tuttlingen district, within the broader travel destination of Tuttlingen, covers a total area of 734.4 square kilometres and encompasses the southwestern foothills of the Swabian Alb, parts of the Baar and the valley of the Young Danube. In the northern part of the district are juniper heaths and the 10-Tausender region, with ten mountains over 1,000 metres high. White limestone cliffs rise above the Danube Valley. The district’s other scenic highlights include the Danube Gorge and the Höwenegg volcanic crater.

Cycling and nature experiences in the region

Mühlheim an der Donau offers a different cycling experience: the town lies directly on the International Danube Cycle Path, which runs all the way to the Danube’s mouth at the Black Sea and can also be ridden in short stages. The sporty circular route returning to Aldingen is thus complemented by a cycle path that can be explored in sections.

The Danube Sinkhole also offers a different scene from day to day. Between Immendingen, Möhringen, Tuttlingen and Fridingen, the Danube may carry a lot of water, run completely dry in some places or carry only a little water. If you include this natural phenomenon in your plans, bear in mind that water levels vary.

For climbing at Rabenfels in the Bäratal, the season matters: the climbing areas between the routes “Mister Wendl” and “Gebrüderweg” are open from 1 August to 31 December. Check the current regulations before visiting.

Culture in the broader travel destination of Tuttlingen

The region’s cultural attractions also offer a range of different experiences. The Neuhausen ob Eck Open-Air Museum features 25 historic buildings that were dismantled at their original locations, relocated there and restored to their original condition. The upper floors of the Künstlerhaus Scharf Eck in Fridingen house a museum dedicated to Hans Bucher, the painter of the Danube Valley; his life and work are presented across three floors. This extends the view beyond Aldingen’s cycling tour and local museum to the region’s landscapes and cultural attractions.
