Half-timbered houses and orchards offer two different ways to explore Nehren: the listed historic town center is characterized by half-timbered houses, while the orchard tour connects meadows, cider presses, distilleries and farm shops. St. Vitus Church is a striking architectural highlight. When choosing what to do, the key question is whether you would like to focus on the townscape and architectural history or on the traditional orchard landscape.

Half-timbered houses and St. Vitus Church

Nehren is a half-timbered village in the Swabian Orchard Paradise. Ornate half-timbered houses shape the appearance of the listed historic town center. The tower of St. Vitus Church can once again be seen from far away, since its half-timbering was exposed in 1980; it is considered Nehren’s landmark. The late Gothic St. Vitus Church was built in 1430, with a choir closed on three sides, a nave hall of the same width and a separate bell tower on the north side of the choir. In this way, half-timbering defines the character of the village on two scales: in the houses of the historic town center and in the striking tower.

Orchards, literature and wood-fired oven bread

The orchard tour runs through Nehren and past orchard meadows, cider presses, distilleries and farm shops. It thus connects the landscape with different types of stops related to orchards. Those who wish to focus on this theme will find a different way to explore the area than through the historic town center and church architecture. The children’s literature tour in Nehren introduces Hans Vaihinger and has been running since 2013. Check current tour materials locally. Collectible sticker no. 4 is available in Nehren at the town hall, at Klett Schokolade and at Nehrener Hof. Confirm the outlets before your trip.

At the wood-fired oven in Nehren community center, interested visitors can bake bread in a wood-fired oven themselves by prior arrangement. There are two steps to planning: register your interest and confirm availability with NEHREN AKTIV.
