The Schönbuch and Ammertal are among the landscapes that visitors to Ammerbuch are especially encouraged to explore. Other featured attractions include orchards, vineyards and the airfield. These offer different starting points for planning your trip: would you like to focus on architecture and history, or use the landscapes as your thematic framework? Hohenentringen Castle provides a specific architectural landmark, while the European Heinrich Schickhardt Cultural Route offers a broader cultural-historical context.

Cultural Route and Hohenentringen Castle

Since 2021, Ammerbuch has been part of the European Heinrich Schickhardt Cultural Route, a cultural route recognised by the Council of Europe. It connects important places associated with the life and work of the Renaissance master builder. Hohenentringen Castle provides a specific architectural highlight: the elongated, three-storey stone building with a hipped roof dates from the 15th and 16th centuries. Two distinct cultural themes thus sit side by side: the route’s wider connections to a person’s life and work, and the architectural form of a historic castle. This distinction can help you choose whether to focus your visit on cultural history or architecture.

Landscape and views

The Schönbuch and Ammertal are among the landscapes that visitors to Ammerbuch are especially encouraged to explore. From the courtyard of Hohenentringen Castle, the view stretches across Ammerbuch and the Upper Gäu as far as the Black Forest. This vista links a specific location with a broad geographic panorama. Other featured attractions include the airfield, orchards and vineyards. You can distinguish these by scale: landscapes, a far-reaching view and individual local attractions all sit side by side.

Hiking

In spring 2018, two circular routes in Ammerbuch were among the premium hiking and premium walking routes offered in the FrĂĽchtetrauf area. If you are planning a specific tour, please check the current route information.

TĂĽbingen as a regional setting

For a broader regional perspective, Tübingen is another destination to consider. Tübingen district stretches from the Schönbuch Nature Park, with its forests and valleys, in the north to the Alb escarpment in the south. The Neckar, Ammer and Steinlach rivers have cut through the district’s layered plateau landscape, creating an area of varied terrain. Its landscape includes the wooded areas of the Rammert and Schönbuch Nature Park, elevated plateaus with sweeping views, orchards and vineyards.

The Museum of Ancient Cultures at Hohentübingen Castle is the only university museum in the world with exhibits from two UNESCO World Heritage inscriptions. It displays 40,000-year-old figurative artworks as well as the oldest musical instruments. Tübingen’s historic old town is also characterised by half-timbered houses and narrow lanes, making it an inviting place to stroll. The Keltermuseum Unterjesingen offers a different cultural-historical perspective, with its extensive collection of equipment and objects relating to wine and hop cultivation, as well as farming and domestic life since the 19th century. The wider Tübingen area thus offers distinct interests side by side: early art and music, strolling through a town, and the history of everyday life and cultivation.

The FrĂĽchtetrauf area has four certified premium hiking routes and six premium walking routes. As certification figures can change, check current route information before planning.
