Rietenau offers several distinct ways to experience the village during your stay: a winding old town centre with magnificent half-timbered houses, a musical walking trail and insights into everyday village culture. It is also situated at the entrance to the wooded valleys of Heiligental and Forstbachtal. Depending on whether you want to focus on the village scenery, music or cultural history, you can get to know the place from different perspectives.

The Musical Trail and Village Scenery

The Rietenau Musical Trail is an interactive hiking route with twelve musical stations over four kilometres. It begins and ends at the Rietenau Music Hall in Trinkgasse. This makes it easy to plan the route’s length and navigation: the Music Hall is both the starting point and the destination, and the four-kilometre route connects the musical stations. The trail offers a different focus from a walk that concentrates mainly on the half-timbered houses and winding old town centre.

Another themed route is the Keuper Educational Trail’s Dinosaur Station 22, located by the fishponds. Information boards cover the geology of southwestern Germany, the Backnang Basin and organisms from the Keuper and Muschelkalk periods. This gives your visit a natural history and geological focus. The boards address both a regional landscape and earlier geological periods.

Museum and Historical Sights

The Museum of Everyday Village Culture in Rietenau is housed in the former town hall. It displays tools, documents and photographs—exhibits that reflect different aspects of everyday village life. The museum has no regular opening hours; it is open during events such as “Day of the Swabian Forest – Dolce Via through Aspach.” Group tours are available on request. Before your visit, check whether you can arrange a visit as part of an event; groups should request a tour in advance.

The Protestant St Ulrich’s Church is another of Rietenau’s sights. Its origins date back to the 13th century. Another attraction is the fountain next to the former bathhouse, which dates from 1826. The church and fountain therefore represent different historical points of interest in the village.
