Wört combines forests and bodies of water as destinations for hikes with a local history that spans different eras, from the Burstel to its churches. Nature and architectural history offer contrasting highlights: the rhododendron forest provides a seasonal highlight, while the Schlössle and the churches showcase historic architectural styles.

Hiking, Bodies of Water and Blossoms

Wört’s forests and bodies of water make appealing destinations for hikes. A circular trail runs around Dorfmühlweiher, combining a leisurely stroll with views of the surrounding natural landscape. Schön Brünnlein, near Konradsbronn, a district of Wört, is another place to visit.

The rhododendron forest is in full bloom in late May and early June; the timing may vary slightly from year to year. If you are travelling specifically to see the blossoms, allow some flexibility in your plans. The two natural attractions offer different experiences: the circular trail around the pond is ideal for a leisurely stroll with views of nature, while the blossoms provide a seasonal reason to visit.

The well-signposted Green Trail of the Ostalbkreis runs through the Wört area. For a specific hike, check the route and signage on site.

Castle and Church History

Burstel, now known as Schlössle, was developed into a moated castle and is considered the best-preserved of the local castle sites. The present-day small castle was built in 1626 in the Renaissance style on the site of an older stone castle. The 1626 building can therefore be understood as a later phase of construction on a site that had already been built on.

The tower of the present-day church has foundations dating from the Romanesque period; the church took on its present architectural form in 1876 and was restored in 1956, 1984 and 2006. The Martin Luther Church in Bösenlustnau was built in the pure Art Nouveau style. Wört’s architectural history thus brings together evidence of early foundations, later design and different architectural styles.

Regional Context: Ostalbkreis

In the wider destination of Ostalbkreis, hiking and cycling along the valleys of the Kocher, Jagst and Rems are among the regional recreational activities. The Swabian Ostalb has an extensive network of cycling and hiking trails, with routes ranging from easy to challenging.

Information on hiking routes in Ostalbkreis includes bus routes and, where available, rail connections to reach trailheads and return from the end of a route. Check timetables and connections before setting out on your specific hike.

Another regional cultural highlight is Limes-Park Rainau. The Upper Germanic-Raetian Limes, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2005, runs through the districts of Buch, Schwabsberg and Dalkingen in the municipality of Rainau, covering around six kilometres. Limes-Park preserves the most scenic sections and most significant individual monuments of the Limes in a unique concentration; a reconstructed watchtower offers panoramic views across the Ostalb.
