Tamm’s historic center and signposted Hammel trails offer two clear ways to explore: discover architectural history or choose a route by length and destination. In the old town center, the linear village layout with its half-timbered gabled buildings is still clearly visible. St. Bartholomew’s Church was first mentioned in a document in 1331. In the southern part of the municipal area, orchards, vineyards and other agricultural uses shape the landscape.

Historic Center and Guided Tours

On the historic center tour, you can also visit the press house, St. Bartholomew’s Church and the old town hall inside. These three buildings are among Tamm’s oldest structures. If you would like a closer look at the church, a guided tour also gives you the opportunity to climb the church tower and visit the tower room and bell chamber. Church tours are available by arrangement.

The guided tour of the historic and modern town center is available in German and French. If you would like to take the tour in a particular language, it is best to check in advance. This lets you combine a visit to the old town center with a look at modern Tamm.

Choose a Hiking Trail by Route and Destination

The three Tamm circular hiking trails start and end at the town hall or the railway station. Red, blue or green ram symbols help you find your way. The Tamm branch of the Swabian Alb Association also maintains around five kilometers of blue-marked hiking trails. They run from Rotenacker Forest via Tamm to Hohenasperg.

The three Hammel trails differ in both length and the destinations they mention. At 13.8 kilometers, Hammel Trail 1 is the longest; it runs from Tamm alongside the Leudelsbach and the Enz, continuing to Rotenacker Forest. Hammel Trail 2 is 12.4 kilometers long and passes through Bissingen before following the Enz to Rotenacker Forest. Hammel Trail 3 is 12.3 kilometers long and runs from Tamm past Hohenasperg to Monrepos Lake and Palace. The two shorter trails are similar in length but differ in the stops and destinations described.

In the area around Tamm, a trail from Tamm to the north side of Hohenasperg explains the former gypsum mining there, which continued until the early 20th century, as well as the geological structure and preservation of this witness mountain. This adds a subject beyond the townscape and landscape to consider when choosing a route.

Culture and Seasonal Impressions

Kulturwerkstatt Tamm organizes open-stage evenings, concerts, theater evenings, literary dinners and readings. Its main venue is the press house in the historic center. You will encounter this building both on the historic center tour and as part of the local cultural program. If you would like to attend an event, check the date in advance.

At Christmas, the large water tower is decorated with lights. If you are planning a visit specifically to see it, check in advance what is planned for that season. For practical directions around town: Bürgersaal is about a two-minute walk from Tamm railway station.
