Oberderdingen combines historic sights with winegrowing, trails and viewpoints. The historic Amthof and the historic town center are among the town’s attractions. Other highlights range from the wine hiking trail and VitalParcours to Waldensian history in Großvillars. When planning your visit, you can choose between different focuses, including local history, active trails and wine-related experiences.
Amthof and Waldensian History
The Huguenot and Waldensian Trail passes over Derdinger Horn, through the Amthof in Oberderdingen and on to Flehingen. The Amthof is therefore both an attraction and part of the trail route. If you are interested in local history, you can also visit this historic landmark as part of a route that continues over Derdinger Horn to Flehingen.
In Oberderdingen-GroĂźvillars, the Waldensian House uses glass panels with images to share information about Waldensian history. It also covers the founding of GroĂźvillars around 300 years ago by Waldensians from the Chisone Valley in what is now Piedmont/Turin. The exhibit thus connects Waldensian history with the founding of the town. It adds a distinct historical focus in GroĂźvillars to the route associated with the Huguenot and Waldensian Trail.
Wine Trails and Activities
The Oberderdingen Wine Hiking Trail offers individuals and groups the opportunity to hike through the vineyards around Derdinger Horn and learn about winegrowing. The marked routes of the VitalParcours are suitable for walking, Nordic walking, jogging and hiking. The two activities have different focuses: the wine hiking trail combines a hike with information about winegrowing, while the VitalParcours features several types of activity on marked routes. If you plan to use the VitalParcours, check the current route conditions before setting out.
The local offerings also include guided walks through the vineyards of Oberderdingen’s Kupferhalde, led by trained wine guides. A wine tasting can also be arranged in the rustic “Wengerter-Häusle.” It is advisable to check current availability before your trip if you are planning a walk or wine tasting. This distinguishes a guided visit through the vineyards from a hike that includes information about winegrowing.
Views and Protected Lakes
The WEINPLATEAU Oberderdingen has an observation platform. In good weather, the viewpoint at Derdinger Horn offers panoramic views extending far beyond Oberderdingen. Good weather is explicitly a factor for the panoramic views from Derdinger Horn; the platform at WEINPLATEAU is another named viewpoint. The lakes Bernhardsweiher and Kraichsee are also local natural attractions: both are protected areas.
Lichtmess in Oberderdingen
Lichtmess is celebrated in Oberderdingen as “Derdinger National Day,” with a market and Lichtmess dance. Alongside sights and outdoor activities, this local festive tradition can also be part of what shapes a stay. If you would like to include Lichtmess in your travel plans, check the relevant festival date in advance.
