The AugenBlick circular trail leads to a viewpoint; in Neuneck, a former castle and a church add to the local history. This offers two different ways to get to know Glatten: a longer circular hike and historic buildings with clearly specified dates.

Circular Trail and Views

The AugenBlick circular trail is 13.2 kilometres long and includes 375 metres of elevation gain. It loops around and through the municipality of Glatten, through the districts of Neuneck and Böffingen, and up to the Naturpark-AugenBlick. The start and finish are at the sports ground in Glatten, giving the route a shared starting and finishing point. Its length and elevation gain give you a clear measure to help decide whether to make this hike the focus of your day.

At the Naturpark-AugenBlick, the AugenBlick Glatten Palmberg viewpoint, you will find a bench, a small table and a labelled panoramic information board. The circular trail thus leads to a clearly named viewpoint where you can also take a break. The information board complements the view with labels identifying the panorama.

Outdoor Pool and History in Neuneck

Glatten outdoor pool was built in 1938 under municipal management and is still operated by the municipality today. Before your visit, check the current seasonal opening hours to make sure they match your planned swimming day. A visit to the pool offers a different focus from the longer circular hike: here, the outdoor pool takes centre stage; there, the route through Glatten and its districts.

In Neuneck, a district of Glatten, stands part of the former castle of the Lords of Neuneck, built around 1230. The Church of St Mary and St George in Neuneck was built in 1493 and originated as the castle chapel of the Lords of Neuneck. The two dates refer to different buildings: the approximate construction date of the former castle and the construction date of the church. Together, they offer two historical perspectives on the Lords of Neuneck: a remaining part of their former castle and a church that originated as their castle chapel.

In the wider destination of Freudenstadt

The wider destination of Freudenstadt offers other, distinct highlights. In Alpirsbach, the monastery with its imposing abbey church is one of the few monasteries in the German southwest preserved according to the principles of the medieval Hirsau Reform. A classic historical city tour takes visitors to historic buildings and through the spa gardens. The Museum of Local History uses selected collector’s items to explain the development of the town of Alpirsbach. The monastery museum’s permanent exhibition, “Monks and Scholars,” displays clothing, letters, drawings, games and vessels from six centuries. In Freudenstadt itself, the market square is Germany’s largest; its features include 50 fountains and arcades.
