Schönmünzach is a climatic health resort and Kneipp spa town between rugged cliffs and wooded mountain slopes. The town has cafés and wellness facilities, and the climate is mild and stimulating. As the municipality of Baiersbronn’s first and oldest holiday resort, Schönmünzach combines the character of a spa town with a distinctive place in the history of tourism. The town also has a notable history: Schönmünzach was founded around 1730 as a glassmakers’ settlement on Reichenbach land.
Water-Treading and Activities in Town
Schönmünzach has two water-treading facilities: one by the Tourist Information Office on Murgtalstraße and the Schönmünzach natural water-treading facility on Schönmünzstraße. Their different locations make it easy to include them in your plans. The mini-golf course is right next to the spa gardens and complements the Kneipp and wellness facilities with another leisure activity.
The Schönmünzach–Schönmünztal stroller-friendly tour follows the Schönmünz stream. It starts and ends at the Schönmünzach Tourist Information Office car park. Along the route, you’ll find a children’s playground with a barbecue area, cool fountains and a water-treading facility. This makes the starting point, the waterside route and specific stops along the way all part of the same tour. Seasonal conditions may affect access, so check the route before setting out.
Hiking Trails Connected to Schönmünzach
The Baiersbronn Panorama Trail passes through forests and meadows to Schönmünzach, where it crosses the Murg. For a longer multi-stage hike that includes the town, the Murgleiter is another option: the 2026 stage details show Stage 3 covering 17.4 kilometres from Forbach via Schwarzenbach to Schönmünzach.
