Plattenhardt offers a range of reasons to choose it as a travel destination: architectural history at the Protestant Antholianus Church, local places of remembrance, the Filderstadt Screen Printing Museum, natural monuments, as well as a market and kiosk. The topics range from specific construction dates and visible traces to a walk by Bärensee. When looking for a holiday apartment, you can first consider whether cultural history, nature or regional products should shape your stay.

Architectural History and Places of Remembrance

The Protestant Antholianus Church preserves the remains of the foundations of two earlier churches. The choir and sacristy belong to a hall church built around 1480 in the Late Gothic style; the nave was built in 1521. Two construction phases can thus be identified at the church. The Plattenhardt Historical Trail features it as stop 4.

Other historical traces are also associated with specific dates: the rectory well is a stone well trough dating from 1723 and is considered the oldest surviving well on the Filder plain. The community bakehouse in Plattenhardt was built in 1844 and renovated in 1982 by the Plattenhardt association group. The former castle of the Lords of Plattenhardt stood at the corner of Römerstraße and Panoramastraße; remnants of the castle ditches are still visible. The stone crosses on Mörikestraße are atonement crosses or memorial stones dating from the 15th century. A monument commemorates aviation pioneer Jacob Brodbeck, who was born in Plattenhardt.

Screen Printing and Archaeological Traces

The Filderstadt Screen Printing Museum is located in part of the former Mack & Schneider hosiery factory in Plattenhardt. It is based on the “Domberger Collection – A Screen Printing Collection of the State of Baden-Württemberg.” In the museum workshop, visitors can screen-print a colorful design onto a postcard. As the workshop schedule may change, check before your visit whether the activity is currently taking place.

In Weilerhau, the Peace Linden is a natural monument. There is also a burial mound field with around 20 Celtic burial mounds, created around 500 BC, that are still recognizable today.

Nature, Trails and Regional Offerings

Bärensee is located in Filderstadt-Plattenhardt on the edge of the Schönbuch and is a popular destination for enjoying the peace and quiet of nature; a small wooded island lies in its center. It is also suitable for a walk around the lake. In Plattenhardt, Bärensee is protected as a natural monument. The Peace Linden in Weilerhau and the lake thus represent two different kinds of natural monument: a single tree and a body of water.

Hiking trails lead from Uhlberg through the Schaichtal valley to Schönbuch Nature Park. A specific walking time is given for the kiosk at Uhlberg Tower: it is about a 20-minute walk from the Plattenhardt hiking car park. This is an approximate time and may vary depending on route conditions. The kiosk offers hot and cold drinks as well as regional delicacies. As opening hours and food and drink options may change, check the current arrangements before your visit.

The weekly market in Plattenhardt is another way to discover regional products. It takes place on Saturdays in front of the town hall and offers fresh regional and seasonal products; individual vendors may change. Alongside historical and scenic discoveries, the market and kiosk offer additional points of interest to consider when planning your trip.
