Stegen between valley and forest

The municipality of Stegen stretches from partly flat valley floors to the wooded ridges of the southern Black Forest. In Stegen’s district of Wittental, the landscape lies between meadows and forests. This means the view ranges from the variety found across the municipality to the specific landscape of one of its districts. If you choose Stegen for a stay, you can include these varied landscapes in your plans, alongside its churches and chapels.

Chapel Trail and church architecture

The Chapel Trail through the Dreisam Valley begins at Stegen’s village square. Three routes are signposted: 7, 11 and 19 kilometres. The different route lengths give you a clear choice based on how far you would like to walk. The trail passes Schlosskapelle, which dates back to the 12th century. This connects route planning with a historic building whose origins go back a long way.

Another highlight of church history is in Stegen-Eschbach: the parish church of St. James is a Baroque building constructed in 1787. Materials from the former pilgrimage church on Lindenberg near St. Peter were used to build it. Compared with Schlosskapelle, the two buildings represent different historical periods: Schlosskapelle dates back to the 12th century, while the parish church was built in 1787. The materials used also point to the former pilgrimage church near St. Peter.

An e-bike tour beyond Stegen

The leisurely farm tour by e-bike is marked as a circular route from Kirchzarten to Stegen via Oberbirken and Burg am Wald. It therefore extends beyond Stegen and passes through several named places. This distinguishes it geographically from the Chapel Trail, which starts at Stegen’s village square. So, if you are choosing between the two routes, their lengths and courses offer different points of reference: the Chapel Trail offers three distance options, while the e-bike tour links the places named above in a loop.

Regional additions in Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald

For planning your journey and local transport, it is also worth looking at the wider destination of Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald. Many places in the district can be reached by train. The free KONUS guest card lets you use local and regional trains and buses throughout the Black Forest at no charge. This is regional transport information; you can check connections to your planned destinations when making your specific travel plans.

Other separate destinations in the wider Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald region include Titisee and Feldberg. At Badeparadies Schwarzwald in Titisee, it is summer all year round, with temperatures typical of summer on 365 days a year; there are real palm trees and turquoise-blue water. The Galaxy waterslide universe offers more than 25 attractions and water fun for all ages. In Feldberg, Fundorena includes a trampoline park spread across three levels. The Fundorena X Mind Arena consists of six stations, and Fundorena also has its own Chicco’s Lounge snack bar. These regional attractions complement Stegen’s local cultural and landscape highlights with more options for your stay.
