Thermal waters, an expansive central park and caves with very different stories define Tskaltubo. The town is a year-round balneological resort offering relaxation and therapeutic treatments. It also has museums, an agricultural market and a cave where limestone formations, traces of early settlement and wine tasting come together. You can therefore choose whether to focus your stay on thermal baths, nature or culture.
Thermal Water and Treatments
Tskaltubo’s mineral water has a natural optimum temperature of 35 degrees. The thermal baths receive their water directly from the springs, without heating or cooling it first. This makes the bathing experience different from a treatment in which the water temperature is adjusted afterward. Spa treatments may include daily thermal baths lasting twenty minutes each. The karst cave microclimate is also used as a natural therapeutic factor.
If thermal baths are the reason for your trip, you can pay particular attention to the available treatments when planning. Tskaltubo combines this focus with other attractions, so a stay need not be limited to bathing. The park, caves and museums offer different highlights; which ones matter to you depends on whether you want to prioritize relaxation, nature or culture.
The Central Park as a Destination in Its Own Right
Tskaltubo Central Park covers 70 hectares. Its described features include walking paths, bridges and tree-lined avenues, as well as evergreen and rare trees and decorative flower beds. This gives the park a different character from the geological focus of the caves: here, paths and landscaped green spaces take center stage.
The park also features the Spring of Beauty fountain, rides and tennis courts. For those who do not want to spend all their time in thermal baths or indoors, these offer additional options. The park’s features are varied: the fountain adds a design element, while the rides and tennis courts appeal to other interests. Together with the avenues, bridges and plants, they shape the character of the grounds.
Caves: Limestone, History and Wine
Tetra Cave opened as an ecotourism site in 2019. It includes a 2,000-square-meter underground limestone chamber adorned with stalactites and stalagmites. Evidence of prehistoric settlement dating back around 30,000 years gives the cave a cultural and historical dimension in addition to its geology.
Natural wine is also stored under natural conditions and tasted on site in Tetra Cave. This connects a cave visit with a theme beyond its rock formations. Nearby, the Prometheus Cave route concludes with a tour on foot or by boat along the underground course of the Kumi River. This offers another kind of cave experience: Tetra Cave highlights its limestone chamber, prehistoric traces and wine, while the Prometheus Cave route ends with a tour along the underground river.
Museums, Market and Local Drinks
The local history museum holds around 30,000 exhibits. Its collections span the Paleolithic through the late feudal period, providing a historical framework for your visit. The Otia Ioseliani House Museum is located in the heart of Tskaltubo. Both museums complement the area’s natural and thermal attractions with cultural and historical points of interest, while covering different periods and perspectives.
There are also several ways to explore local produce. A small winery and a brewery are located in the heart of Tskaltubo. The agricultural market offers natural products from local farmers and freshly baked Georgian bread. If you are interested in regional products, you can make the market a distinct part of your exploration of the town; the winery and brewery, meanwhile, put the focus on drinks.
Choose Accommodation Based on Your Interests
Thermal baths and treatments, time in the 70-hectare park, caves, museums and the market appeal to different interests. If several of these are important to you, decide which ones you want to shape your trip and which you would like to explore as an addition.
