Sairme combines mineral water and warm thermal bathing with a forested mountain landscape. Four springs and five wells are among its hydromineral resources; four different types of mineral water are available for drinking. This makes wellness and nature distinct focal points for a trip.
Mineral Water, Landscape, and History
Sairme’s mineral water deposits lie on the northern slope of the Adjara-Imereti Range, also known as the Meskheti Range. Sairme lies at 950 meters above sea level and is classified as part of a subtropical mountain zone. Coniferous and deciduous trees shape the surroundings in Baghdati Municipality.
A local legend links Sairme’s name to brothers who followed a trail of reddish water left by a wounded deer. The geological discovery story is separate: in the 1920s, geologists discovered hot mineral water beneath Sairme.
Thermal Facilities and Accommodation
The hotel complex in Sairme includes thermal baths, a spa, and a wellness center equipped with German technology. Wellness services include hydro-massage and mineral water baths. As the availability of individual treatments may change, it is best to confirm the treatments you want before your trip.
A 24-hour polyclinic at the resort prescribes individualized mineral water treatments and recommends spa and rehabilitation procedures. You should confirm medical services and their availability before arrival.
The resort is considered open year-round; nevertheless, you should confirm its operating hours before your trip.
Zipline and the Sairme Pillars Area
The Sairme zipline consists of two sections, 500 and 300 meters long. The 500-meter section offers views of forested mountains. The zipline is considered available year-round; check whether it is operating on your date, as availability may change.
The Sairme Desert and the Sairme Pillars are near Sairme, but outside the precise boundaries of the town. A purpose-built footpath of about three kilometers leads through varied forest toward the Pillars. The trail passes the ruins of an old St. George’s Church. The Sairme Pillars massif is three kilometers long and 30 meters high. These figures refer to different things: the approximately three-kilometer footpath and the three-kilometer extent of the massif.
Getting There by Road or Bicycle
The road journey from Kutaisi to Sairme takes approximately one hour and 20 minutes. Route choice and road conditions can affect travel time, so treat this as an estimate.
The Abastumani–Zekari Pass–Sairme connection includes a 45-kilometer off-road route and a 38-kilometer cycling route to Sairme. The cycling route is estimated to take about seven to eight hours. This time estimate applies to the cycling route, not the off-road route.
