The ViaRhôna and Vions’ local history offer different ways to shape your stay: a route with a rail option, trails through the countryside, and historic and cultural sites. If you’re looking for accommodation, first decide what you want to focus on during your visit. This will help you weigh up the options according to your interests, rather than treating them as a fixed itinerary.

ViaRhôna and rail connection

The ViaRhôna passes through Vions on its route between Ruffieux and Chanaz. From Vions station, you can continue by TER train towards Aix-les-Bains. The route through Vions and the option to continue by train are two separate points to consider when planning your trip. Check the TER timetable before travelling.

Trails and landscapes

The Sentier pédestre du Mollard climbs up to Mollard and offers views of the Rhône plain and the Chautagne marsh. The focus here is on a climb and two specific landscape views. This makes the trail a distinct option if you’d like to take walking routes and scenery into account when planning your visit.

The GR 65 long-distance trail is signposted in Vions towards Santiago de Compostela. The Chemin du Génie offers a circular walk. These are different route ideas: a long-distance trail heading towards Santiago and the option of a circular walk. The Kayak stop has a ramp for launching kayaks—a separate point to consider if you’re interested in paddling.

Historic sites in Vions

La Commanderie stands on the site of a Roman oppidum and a later priory dating from the 12th to the 17th century. It also served as a strategic observation post overlooking the Canal de Savières and the Rhône. The priory’s long history and the site’s strategic role as an observation post offer different perspectives on its past.

The Chapelle de Notre-Dame du Bon Secours houses a wooden statue from the 15th century and was built in 1844 by the residents of Bovéron. The chapel is open daily year-round; check visiting arrangements before your trip. The Four des Granges is considered the oldest oven in Vions and adds another element to the local heritage sites.

The mobile cultural programme

The digital museum of the “Châlée chautagnarde” Micro-Folie presents thousands of digitised works from national and international institutions and museums. The selection of works may change. The programme includes exhibitions, activities and cultural events for all audiences. The free mobile Micro-Folie is part of a programme that covers several municipalities, including Vions. As the offering is itinerant, the exact schedule in Vions may change; check the dates before your visit.
