Trévignin lies on the slopes of Mont Revard in the Massif des Bauges and is part of the Massif des Bauges Regional Natural Park. Several distinctive features of the area can help you plan your visit: a wide range of elevations, hiking trails with named viewpoints, and local cheese production. Churches and oratories also give the area a layered history. You can decide whether mountain trails, cheese-making traditions or architectural history will be the focus of your stay.

Landscape and orientation

The municipality includes ecologically valuable areas and habitats for rare mountain species. Elevations range from 500 m at Chez les Pugeats to 1,562 m at the Tour de l’Angle Est. This range also provides context for the hiking options: the Tour de l’Angle Est is not just a place name, but one of the viewpoints on the circular route described below.

For finding your way on the map, the Route du Revard (D 913) is an important reference point: it runs through Trévignin and connects with the RD 211 towards Montcel and the RD 49 towards Pugny-Chatenod. The road connections and elevation figures describe different aspects of the area: the former help with orientation, while the latter indicate its position in the landscape.

Hikes with different route formats

Stage 5 of the GR® des Grands Lacs runs through Trévignin between Le Revard and Aix-les-Bains. On the way to Aix-les-Bains, it follows the route of the former Mont-Revard cog railway. This former railway line connects today’s hiking route with the mountain’s transport history. As trail conditions can change with the seasons, check the route and conditions before setting out.

Another option is the Tour des Ébats et Tour de l’Angle Est from Trévignin: it is described as a 12.68 km circular hike of moderate difficulty, with 720 m of ascent. The route passes through forests and mountain pastures, reaches the viewpoints of the Tour des Ébats and Tour de l’Angle Est, and follows the Crémaillère trail on the return. You can choose between a stage towards Aix-les-Bains and a circular route starting in Trévignin; both routes have a clearly identified connection to the former cog railway or to the viewpoints.

Tome des Bauges and Belvédère des saveurs

The Fromagerie de Trévignin makes Tome des Bauges AOP in its own workshop and ages the cheese in its own cellars. The Fromagerie’s shop sells the cheese. The Belvédère des saveurs offers another insight into farming and cheese-making: explanatory panels accompany a self-guided sensory discovery. After the self-guided tour, visitors can sample the Fromagerie’s cheeses in the shop. Check the current visitor arrangements and sales details before your visit.

Churches and oratories

Saint-Laurent became Trévignin’s parish church in 1513. The present Église paroissiale Saint-Laurent was rebuilt on a new site. Joseph Tournier drew up the plan, which was approved in 1831. On 10 March 1832, the contract was awarded to builder Georges Vuillermet; the work was accepted on 6 January 1833. The dates mark different stages in the building’s history: from approval of the plan to the contract award and final acceptance.

The Oratoire de Notre-Dame de La Salette was built by Thérèse Francoz in 1863 and blessed on 6 May of that year. The restored rectangular structure is shaped like a chapel. Inside, the space has a semicircular vaulted ceiling and niches for statues. At the junction of the Route du Revard (D 913) and a small path stands the Oratoire de Notre-Dame des Collines, also known as the Chapelle des Mailland. The Mailland family built it in 1846.

Another oratory is dedicated to Saint Victor: the Oratoire de saint Victor was probably built around 1970 near the site of the destroyed Chapelle Saint-Victor. The date is explicitly uncertain. Together, these named buildings illustrate different forms and periods in the area’s religious history, from the parish church to smaller oratories.
