Saint-Alban-de-Montbel lies on the northwestern shore of Lac d’Aiguebelette, on a hill above the lake. Its setting, the Sentier du Sougey, the Le Sougey leisure area and the village’s buildings offer different ways to spend a stay: enjoying nature, getting active, having fun by the water or exploring the local heritage.

Lakeshore and natural areas

The shores of Lac d’Aiguebelette in Saint-Alban-de-Montbel are designated as biotope zones; protected areas also include wetlands. The large beach at the Le Sougey leisure area offers an unobstructed view of the lake. Several trees and a green space provide shade and a welcome coolness. Designated natural areas and a beach with leisure facilities thus sit side by side as different facets of the landscape.

Hiking and lakeside paths

The Sentier du Sougey is an easy 3-kilometer hiking trail, with a walking time of 40 minutes and an elevation gain of 50 meters. Themed markers and a landscape interpretation panel explain the surrounding natural environment. Check seasonal access conditions locally before your visit.

The Voie verte du tour du Lac also passes through Saint-Alban-de-Montbel. It connects the Le Sougey leisure area on the western shore with La Combe in Aiguebelette-le-Lac on the eastern shore and is just under 6 kilometers long. This offers a choice between an easy hike and a longer route connecting the lakeshores.

Leisure at Le Sougey

Pedal boats with slides, kayaks, canoes, and single and tandem stand-up paddleboards are available to rent directly at the beach. Rentals are seasonal. The leisure area is also home to Accro’lac, a treetop adventure park with more than 1.6 kilometers of courses and 17 zip lines. It also features 90 fun activity stations and offers outdoor sports activities for ages three and up. Accro’lac’s opening hours may vary by season. If these activities are important for your travel dates, it is advisable to check in advance.

Château and church

Château du Perron is a 19th-century château in the hamlet of Le Perron, on the heights of Saint-Alban-de-Montbel, overlooking Lac d’Aiguebelette. From the lake’s islands, the church of Saint-Alban-de-Montbel can be seen on its natural rise in the terrain. The château and the church show the relationship between the buildings and the lake from different viewpoints.

Getting there by train and bus

The nearest SNCF railway station is Lépin-Le-Lac-La Bauche, 3 kilometers from Saint-Alban-de-Montbel. It is on the Lyon-Part-Dieu–Chambéry–Challes-les-Eaux railway line.
