Fontcouverte-La-Toussuire comprises 16 hamlets along the road from the hamlet of Plan des Rois to the La Toussuire resort. This brings together several themes to consider when planning your trip: skiing, hiking trails and local heritage.
Skiing and mountain panoramas
The La Toussuire ski area is part of the “Les Sybelles” ski area and extends to the foot of the Ouillon. Pointe de l’Ouillon reaches 2,431 metres and offers a 360-degree panorama of Oisans and the Parc National de la Vanoise. A hike also combines views of the peaks with a specific route: “La Rochette et les Trois Croix depuis Fontcouverte” also offers a 360-degree panorama. Hikes by time and distance
L’Adret is a 3.3-kilometre family hike with a stated duration of 1 hour and 30 minutes. It starts at the Église de la Rochette in Fontcouverte and passes the Chapelle de la Rochette and the Cromlech in Le Villard. The Au Fil de l’Eau loop is shorter, at 2.1 kilometres and one hour; it starts at the Tourist Office in the La Toussuire resort. The stated times and distances make the difference in time required clear: Au Fil de l’Eau is 1.2 kilometres shorter and takes 30 minutes less. Along the loop, you can discover the Édioulaz stream and a small larch forest.
Le Quiz du Goupil is also part of the Au-fil-de-l’eau trail: a nature activity with challenges to help you discover mountain plants. It starts behind the pump track and follows the trail. This adds a plant-themed activity to the route options, offering another way to experience the area.
Heritage in the village centre and along the way
The village centre lies on the “Les Chemins du Baroque” cultural trail and has two listed religious buildings. The town hall houses Pierre Desmazières’ permanent photo exhibition, “Fontcouverte d’hier et aujourd’hui”. The exhibition adds a photographic dimension alongside the historic buildings and cultural trail.
Another point of interest is the Cromlech below the chapel of Les Villards. It consists of twelve upright, half-buried stones arranged in a semicircle and is considered a remnant from the Neolithic period. It can also be seen from the square in front of the church in Fontcouverte. On the L’Adret hike, the Cromlech is another waypoint in Le Villard; its description and its location in the square in front of the church offer two different ways to orient yourself at this site.
Guided hikes and local products
The Bureau Montagne Arvan offers guided hikes on the trails of Fontcouverte-La-Toussuire. The guides introduce local flora and fauna, natural environments and heritage; specific outings vary. At the Chèvrerie de Savoué, visitors can hand-milk goats and enjoy an aperitif meal featuring farm products. Reservations and dates may change, so check the latest dates and reservation information before visiting.
La Bergerie de l’Etoile sells artisanal products from sheep farming, cheese and cured meats directly at the farm and at La Toussuire’s seasonal market. The market adds a seasonal place to buy the products alongside the farm itself; when planning, it is worth bearing this distinction in mind.
