Flumet can be explored through a variety of experiences: historic buildings, insights into mountain farming and cheesemaking, as well as activities by the water and on a mountain bike. When choosing what to do, it helps to start by deciding what you would like to focus on: architecture and history, a museum experience that requires advance booking, or outdoor activities. This lets you put individual interests first instead of trying to turn all the options into a fixed day-long itinerary.

Historic landmarks in Flumet

One striking historic landmark is the Pont de l’Abîme: built in 1878, the bridge stands 30 metres above the Arly. The Église Saint Théodule offers a glimpse into another period. Its stone bell tower dates back to a medieval watchtower, part of Flumet’s 13th-century fortifications; the tower was later converted into a bell tower. The church stands on a Cargneule rock outcrop, hollowed out to create burial places. The Maison forte of the De Bi family adds another dimension to Flumet’s history: it is the last of the town’s three castles still standing and probably dates from the 15th century.

Museums, mountain farming and cheese

The restored Moulin à Tienne houses a museum on the history of Flumet. The collection includes photographs, traditional objects and old clothing. The museum complex also includes an Estaminet, where you can sample soupe bûcheronne. A digital museum on mountain farming and local cheesemaking offers a different focus: it provides information on both subjects and, with advance booking, offers guided visits featuring a film, cheese tasting and other workshops. The ways to visit differ too: a collection devoted to local history on the one hand, and a bookable guided programme about mountain farming and cheese on the other. There are also two distinct culinary options: soupe bûcheronne at the Estaminet, or cheese tasting as part of a pre-booked visit to the digital museum.

Waterside destinations and a circular walk

There are two different destinations to choose from by the water. The Plan d'eau de Flumet is set up for swimming and relaxation and is close to the Arrondine leisure area. The Lac des Évettes is a small natural lake surrounded by fir trees. The difference is clear: swimming and relaxation are the focus at the Plan d'eau, while the Lac des Évettes is a small natural lake among the firs. Another activity is the signposted circular route “Un Petit Tour dans Flumet.” It is 1.5 kilometres long and starts at the tourist office.
