Lake Ronzey covers three hectares and is located close to the source of the Yzeron. There are also cultural sites such as the Chapelle de Châteauvieux and the Maison d’Expositions de L’Araire, as well as specific opportunities for hiking and climbing. If you want to plan your activities around your schedule, you can compare the two offerings focused on wild plants, which differ in length.
Cultural Sites and History
The Maison d’Expositions de L’Araire is located in Yzeron in the former girls’ school at 23 rue de la Cascade. The building’s former use and its specific address give the cultural institution a clear local connection.
The Chapelle de Châteauvieux is a Romanesque chapel dating from the 11th century and dedicated to John the Baptist. Its architectural style, date and dedication are three distinct points of reference for understanding the building’s history. The square in Châteauvieux is also home to three Sully lime trees—a specific landscape feature alongside the architectural cultural landmarks.
Lake Ronzey and Climbing
At Lake Ronzey, there is a path along the shore and a fishing spot adapted to the needs of people with reduced mobility. The fishing spot bears the “Parcours FAMILLE” label, awarded by the Comité National de Labellisation des Parcours de Pêche. The label applies to the fishing spot; it does not mean that all activities are suitable for families.
At the Py Froid climbing crag, there are around twenty routes, most of which are climbed on top rope. This is an approximate figure; climbing conditions and route availability may change. Check conditions before visiting if you plan to climb there.
Hikes and Wild Plants
Le Jardin d’Yzeron offers a six-hour hands-on workshop: participants gather wild plants, prepare a dish with them and then eat together. The format combines foraging, cooking and eating in a longer session.
There is also a three-hour outdoor walk with a cultural focus, “Balade tout près des plantes.” It starts at the Planil car park in Yzeron. The timings make the difference between the two offerings clear: the walk lasts three hours, while the hands-on workshop lasts six. This lets you include either a shorter walk or a longer session with a shared meal in your plans. The walk’s schedule and prices may change; check them in advance.
Children can enjoy fun hikes in Yzeron with Les Gnolus. Another hike, “Du crêt de la Madone au col des Brosses,” is signposted with the yellow-and-white and red markings of the GR® 7, as well as the PDIPR markings. When comparing hiking options, you’ll find both an activity for children and a named hike with specific trail markers.
