A former military fort, two nature trails and several cultural venues offer different ways to enjoy a stay in Rillieux-La-Pape. The Ruisseau du Ravin trail is ten kilometres long and takes approximately three hours and ten minutes; the La Buissière nature trail leads to two named destinations. Other highlights include the Centre Chorégraphique National, a museum of medicine and Parc Brosset, with its labelled trees and peace memorial. You can choose between outdoor activities, history and culture.
Courses and hiking trails
Vanciaventure adventure park is located in the former military fort in Vancia, north of Lyon. Its ten high ropes courses are for children and adults and offer different, progressively increasing levels of difficulty. There is also a net course for the youngest children, as well as a treasure hunt, for children aged four and over. This means there are several options within the adventure park: courses at different difficulty levels and two activities with a specified minimum age.
The hiking trails can also be distinguished by specific criteria. The Ruisseau du Ravin route is ten kilometres long and takes approximately three hours and ten minutes. The La Buissière nature trail is 10.7 kilometres long and leads to the Chapelle de la Buissière and the Canal de Miribel. It is slightly longer and has two named destinations, offering a different point of reference from the time estimate for the Ruisseau. When choosing, you can therefore consider whether an approximate walking time or specific destinations along the route matter more to you.
Fort and cultural venues
Fort de Vancia was completed in 1878 and is surrounded by a one-kilometre-long moat. The completion date gives the site a historical context, while the moat provides a concrete sense of its scale. Guided tours of the fort are organised as part of Heritage Days. If you plan to take a tour, check the current dates before your trip.
Another cultural landmark is the Centre Chorégraphique National de Rillieux-La-Pape (CCNR). In the Velette district, it occupies a venue specifically designed and built for its activities. From there, panoramic views extend across the valley of the Lyon metropolitan area. The combination of the institution, its purpose-built venue and the views gives the CCNR a distinctive profile among the cultural offerings. It is therefore a specific point of interest for a trip that includes dance and culture.
The Chapelle de la Buissière is a venue with 80 seats, where various events and exhibitions are held. If you want to plan your visit around a particular date, check the current programme. Rillieux-La-Pape is also home to a museum of medicine, another cultural landmark alongside its event venues.
Greenery and remembrance at Parc Brosset
Parc Brosset has numerous remarkable trees, each identified by a nameplate. The signs help you distinguish the individual trees and take a closer look at them. Also in Parc Brosset is the Mémorial de la Paix by artist Yves Henri. The park thus brings together labelled trees and a named peace memorial as distinct points of interest.
