Quincieux combines walks in the Saône floodplain with Romanesque religious architecture and a weekly market in the town centre. Three specific points provide a useful guide when planning your visit: the 8.5-kilometre Les 3 îles circular trail, a second walking route with a stated walking time, and the Saturday morning market. This lets you plan nature, culture and a market visit around the actual highlights of your stay.
Walking Trails Between the Saône and the Town Centre
The Les 3 îles walking trail starts at the MJC in Quincieux and is an 8.5-kilometre circular route. East of Quincieux, the trail takes you through the Saône floodplain. You can reach the trail by taking bus 92 to the Quincieux Mairie stop; check the timetable details before travelling.
A second option is the “Des bords de Saône à la Chapelle” walking route. It is 16.6 kilometres long, with a stated walking time of 4 hours and 10 minutes. By comparison, Les 3 îles is the shorter route at 8.5 kilometres.
Floodplain Landscape and Islands
The Saône floodplain is part of the landscape covered by the Les 3 îles loop. Quincieux also includes the île du Roquet, the île de la Pradelle and the île Beyne. These three islands are designated ZNIEFF areas and form part of Quincieux’s historical heritage.
Chapels and History
The Chapelle Saint Jean-Baptiste is dedicated to Saint John the Baptist and is a Romanesque-style building. Various local associations organise concerts and performances there; the programme is not fixed. So if you are planning to attend an event, check the specific dates.
On the last Sunday of each month, the chapel serves as a lunch stop for a group of walking pilgrims. The group is travelling from Fourvière to Ars (01). Following renovation, the Chapelle Saint Jean-Baptiste was once again ready to host ceremonies and events. Confirm the current visiting arrangements before your visit.
The Église du hameau de La Chapelle in Quincieux was listed as a historic monument by decree dated 21 March 1983.
Saturday at the Weekly Market
The weekly open-air market is held every Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Rue du Commerce in the town centre. If you plan to visit the market, it fits into a Saturday morning; check the hours again before you travel.
The market offers fruit and vegetables, goat’s cheese and eggs, as well as honey that is 100 percent locally produced. Products from a butcher, a charcuterie seller and a caterer are also available. Occasional events focus on products that are entirely locally produced. As individual vendors may change, don’t count on a specific product being available; check the current selection if you are planning to visit the market for something in particular.
