Mont Pothu dominates Brullioles and is a destination for a walk; chapels, local lore and mountain biking routes also shape the range of discoveries on offer. During your stay, you can weigh up a cultural focus, a walk or mountain biking circuits. Each place and route offers a different emphasis: a named building with a construction date, a picnic area with views, or routes with different landmarks to help you find your way. Which ones you focus on depends on whether you are more interested in culture, landscapes or cycling.

Chapels and local lore

The Chapelle Saint-Roch is near the current cemetery, can be visited and was built around 1759. The Circuit Les Chapelles takes you to discover the village chapels and the Trois Chapelles grounds. This offers two different cultural experiences: visiting a single building with an approximate construction date, or following a route to the village chapels and the grounds. The Pierre du Pothu is considered a mysterious Druidic altar and is associated with a fertility cult. If you are interested in sacred sites and local interpretations, you can consider the building’s history, a themed route and a local legend as different points of interest.

Mont Pothu and Trois Chapelles

Mont Pothu is 818 m high and is a destination for a walk. Along with its striking height, it offers a specific focus for your time in the area. The Trois Chapelles grounds offer something different. They have a picnic area and an orientation table with views of the Monts du Lyonnais; there is also a lovely view of Brullioles. The picnic area is a practical option for a break outdoors, while the orientation table and the two viewpoints connect the grounds with the surrounding landscape. This means Mont Pothu, as a destination for a walk, and the grounds, with their picnic facilities and views, play different roles in your plans.

Mountain biking routes with different highlights

Two different route profiles can help you choose a mountain biking outing. The Circuit VTT 101 – La Ronde de Pothu is a 21.4 km circular route with 775 m of positive elevation gain. It starts at Place de l’église in Brullioles and is signposted with red VTT-FFC markers and the number 101. The distance and positive elevation gain give you specific details about the scope of the route; the marker colour and number are useful navigation aids. The Circuit VTT 114 – Les 12 hameaux passes through Brullioles’ various hamlets and near the Château de Charfetain. Your choice therefore depends on whether you plan around distance and elevation gain or would rather focus on the hamlets along the way and the route’s proximity to the Château.

Getting to Brullioles

Trains run regularly from Lyon-Gorge de Loup to L’Arbresle; buses then go to the village square in Brullioles. This provides a rail and bus connection to a named destination in the village. Check the timetables separately and coordinate the train and bus if you choose this route. You can consider the connection via L’Arbresle alongside your activities, first deciding whether chapels, a walk or mountain biking will shape your trip. Then you can check whether the departure times work for your travel dates.
