Blacé brings together walking, winegrowing and local history, offering a range of reasons to explore. To plan your visit, you can first decide whether you want to focus on time outdoors, local wines or historic buildings.
Landscape and walking trails
The municipality stretches between vineyards and wooded hills, from the Plateau de Blaceret at 215 metres to the Col du Failly at 673 metres. These two elevations place the landscape in context and provide a concrete measure of its range. The five walking trails are listed by distance, so you can consider the landscape and the length of route you want as two separate aspects of your planning.
Five marked walking trails start at the salle des fêtes and are 5, 10, 16, 20 and 25 kilometres long. The 5- and 10-kilometre routes offer shorter distances alongside three longer routes of 16, 20 and 25 kilometres. Compare the route lengths with how far you would like to walk. The trails are open to walkers year-round; seasonal conditions may vary. Check local guidance before setting out.
Wine from Blacé
Blacé’s winegrowing produces red wines under the Beaujolais and Beaujolais Villages appellations, as well as white and rosé Beaujolais. Some winemakers also offer Crus, Beaujolais Pétillant and Crémant; the selection varies from one producer to another. Wines from Blacé can be tasted and purchased directly at the winery. If you would like to try a particular colour or an additional category, ask the individual winery about its range and arrange your tasting in advance.
Cultural history: château, church and La Bessée
Château de Pravins and its park are open to the public year-round, but only by prior appointment. The earliest known date for the château is 1251. On the Grand circuit de Blacé, La Bessée is described as a 13th-century house that Marguerite de Bagé bought in 1251 for the benefit of the Polleteins monastery she had founded. For the château, 1251 is the earliest known date; for La Bessée, it is the year of purchase. Blacé’s church was built in 1838 to plans by architect Louis-Gaspard Dupasquier. These offer a date for the château, a purchase story for La Bessée and a 19th-century church building.
Find accommodation in Blacé to suit your interests
You can choose a walking trail by its length; arrange a tasting with the relevant winery; and book an appointment in advance to visit the château. If one of these plans is a priority, check the details before booking your accommodation. This will help you focus your search on the activities you actually plan to do.
