Treffort offers several ways to experience Lac de Monteynard-Avignonet: guided cruises, water sports and trails to the Himalayan footbridges all go hand in hand. When planning, it is worth distinguishing between a boat trip, a boat crossing and a hike. Each serves a different purpose—from seeing the lake from a boat to connecting landing stages and hiking trails.

Boat tour and crossing: two different experiences

Bateau La Mira offers guided cruises on Lac de Monteynard. The route passes through the Ebron Gorge and hidden parts of the lake, continuing to the Monteynard Dam; it also goes underneath the Himalayan footbridges. The gorge, lake and dam make up a distinct sequence along the way. Sailing conditions may affect the route. If you are planning this cruise, check the conditions for your preferred date in advance.

Boat crossings between the landing stages at Treffort and Mayres-Savel serve a different purpose: they enable hikers and mountain bikers to take the hike to the Himalayan footbridges on Lac de Monteynard. The landing stages can therefore be included in your plans for this hike. The service may operate seasonally, so check in advance whether the crossing runs when you plan to visit.

On foot across the Drac and Ebron

The Passerelles du lac de Monteynard-Avignonet hike crosses two Himalayan footbridges spanning the Drac and Ebron rivers. The cruise passes beneath the bridges, while the hike goes over them, giving you a very different perspective on the lake. The trail to the Passerelle de l’Ebron offers an unobstructed view of the lake at the start of the hike.

Water sports and the scale of the lake

Lac de Monteynard-Avignonet lies at an altitude of 500 metres and stretches for 20 kilometres. Windsurfing, kitesurfing, fishing, sailing and wakeboarding are all practised on the lake. When choosing an activity, it helps to distinguish between activities you take part in yourself on the water and a guided trip: the listed activities focus on taking part, while Bateau La Mira offers a guided route. This gives you different ways to include the lake in your stay, without making water sports and a boat trip the same experience.

Visitor information and exhibition

The Môle de Treffort provides information about tourist and sporting activities on Lac de Monteynard-Avignonet. Opening periods may vary, so check before visiting. The Espace info EDF in Treffort complements this information with an exhibition about EDF’s activities in the Drac Valley. Covering 60 m², it features films, information panels and photographs. Access may be seasonal, so check whether it will be open on your preferred date.

Trail and getting there

The Trail des Passerelles du Monteynard has been held every year in July since 2011. Exact dates and formats may change. If you are planning your trip around the trail, check the details for the relevant year.

From Grenoble, you can reach the Treffort water sports centre via the A51 towards Sisteron, taking the Sinard exit and then following the road to Treffort. Road conditions and signage may change, so check your route before setting off.
