Chestnut and oak coppice, numerous flowering plants and a walking trail with a clear focus on nature give Pisieu a distinct connection to its landscape. Horse-riding experiences and the architectural history of the Église Saint-Blaise add to this. When planning, it is worth considering the different conditions for each activity as well as their respective themes: forest and plant life, horses or cultural history.
Forest and trail in the Bois Commun
The Bois Commun includes stands of chestnut and oak coppice, and numerous flowering plants grow there too. The tree species and flowering plants offer different natural highlights: one describes the forest’s composition, while the other reflects its plant diversity. Those interested in nature will find a specific point of interest in the Bois Commun.
The Sentier du Bois Commun gives this focus a clear form as a trail. In 2021, the municipalities of Pisieu and Revel-Tourdan decided to create it so visitors could discover the forest and its animal and plant life. The project was carried out in July 2022 with the installation of trail markers. The sequence is clear: the joint decision was followed by the installation of markers in July of the following year. If you plan to take the trail, check the conditions on site.
Horse-riding activities with different conditions
La Licorne Bleue is a riding school offering lessons on horses and ponies. It also offers guided farm visits by appointment. Riding lessons and visits are two different types of activity; advance arrangements are part of planning a farm visit.
Le P'tit Ranch offers pony rides for children aged 3 to 12. The activity takes place on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and during the school holidays from April to October; the days are seasonal and may change. So check the latest dates before visiting. When planning a pony ride, you can take both the age group and the time frame into account when choosing a date.
Architectural history and imagery of the Église Saint-Blaise
Construction of the Église Saint-Blaise began in 1853 to replace a partly dilapidated church dating from the 13th century. It is therefore important to distinguish between the predecessor building and the later church: the 13th century refers to the older church, while 1853 marks the start of construction of Saint-Blaise.
The tympanum of the Église Saint-Blaise depicts a dove of peace with an olive branch in its beak. Two scallop shells recall that Pisieu lies on the Way of St James. The motifs have different emphases: the dove introduces a theme of peace, while the shells refer to the pilgrimage route. These architectural details thus add further cultural connections to the building’s history.
Coordinate your travel dates and accommodation search
There is no single schedule that applies to all activities: the farm visit must be arranged in advance, pony rides take place on seasonal days, and you should check the conditions on site for the Sentier du Bois Commun. These differences can help when choosing your dates.
