Morette offers signposted hiking trails and tangible traces of its culture. Highlights include panoramic views of the Préalpes, the Église Saint-Julien and the Four de la Combe. If you’re looking for a holiday rental in Morette, you can decide whether outdoor activities, religious history or local traditions should shape your stay.

Hiking and Cycling

The “De Morette à Cras” route starts at Morette Town Hall and offers impressive views of the Préalpes. A route description updated in 2022 describes “Autour du Sonut” as an easy circular hike in Morette: it is 8.07 kilometres long, takes an average of 3 hours and 15 minutes, and returns to the starting point. As trail conditions and signage can change, check conditions before setting out.

The two routes can be distinguished by their different details: for “Autour du Sonut”, the distance and average duration help with planning your time; for “De Morette à Cras”, the starting point at the town hall and the views of the Préalpes take centre stage. This can help you decide whether a measured circular hike or the promise of a view is the more important factor for your outing.

The “Autour du Sonut” landscape includes walnut groves and views of the Vercors, Belledonne and the Chartreuse. The family-friendly circular walk also takes in nut-drying huts and bread ovens. The route can also be ridden by mountain bike. Check current trail conditions before hiking or cycling.

Church and Heritage

The Église Saint-Julien de Morette was rebuilt and extended in 1868. A Gothic chapel added around 1615 was preserved in the process. The building’s history thus brings together an older structure and a 19th-century extension. Saint Julien is the church’s principal patron saint; Saint Blaise and Saint Vincent are its secondary patron saints.

The Église houses a harmonium built by Debain. It was made between 1855 and 1860 and later restored; in retrospect, the restoration was placed in the last few decades. The harmonium and the building’s history point to different periods: the instrument dates from the mid-19th century, while the preserved chapel belongs to an earlier building phase.

The Four de la Combe

The Four de la Combe is located on the Route des Acacias. A report dated 21 August 2025 described it as recently renovated and said it was used several times a year, as well as for local celebrations and events. If the oven is a specific reason for your visit, check event dates in advance, as the schedule may change.

Morette brings together a range of interests: hikes with clear route details, views of several mountain ranges, historic architecture and local traditions. When planning your trip, you can choose the focus that matters to you and select a route or cultural site accordingly.
