Auris combines a Natura 2000 mountain forest on the edge of the resort with hiking trails, a glacier viewpoint, historical heritage and seasonal sports. The season shapes the focus: the forest is used for hiking year-round, while the ski area and bike park offer different winter and summer activities. If you are looking for a hotel in Auris, you can plan your trip around whether forest, heritage, skiing or summer activities are your priority.

Forest and pastoralism

The Forêt de Piégut is a 46-hectare Natura 2000 mountain spruce forest on the edge of the resort. The Sentier du Bucheron, also known as the Chemin du Milieu, is an ethnobotanical trail through the forest. A companion guide is available to borrow from the tourist office; availability may vary. The forest is used for hiking year-round, though trail conditions depend on the season. The combination of forest and themed trail makes Piégut a clearly defined destination for exploring nature and heritage.

Traditional pastoralism in Auris-en-Oisans includes bringing more than 2,000 sheep from the La Crau plain to graze around Montagne de l’Homme every summer, from May to September. The exact arrangements may vary from year to year. This seasonal rhythm complements the year-round use of the forest for hiking, offering another way to appreciate the landscape around Auris.

Views and heritage

The Belvédère de St Géraud offers views of the glaciers. It can be reached on foot in 10 minutes from Cluy and 20 minutes from the resort; walking conditions may vary. The two starting points therefore offer different walking times to the same viewpoint.

The Chapelle Saint-Géraud was built in the 7th century. Another way to explore the area’s heritage is the Parcours d’orientation patrimoine: les Hameaux d’Auris, which offers a fun and sporty way to discover part of Auris’s local heritage. Access depends on weather and trail conditions. The chapel is a historic building, whereas the orienteering course is a fun, sporty activity.

Skiing, bike park and guided tours

The winter offer includes the Auris-en-Oisans ski area, with 19 varied ski runs and 12 lifts. These figures are seasonal visitor information and may change from one season to the next; before a winter visit, it is worth checking the information for that season. The green Jacques le Bûcheron ski run is designed as a themed course. Its features include attractions, colorful modules, unusual scenery and sculptures. The ski area may also change these features.

The 2026 summer guide lists the Sûres lift as an access point to the Auris bike park. This seasonal information may change. Auris also offers half-day mountain outings with a guide, introducing visitors to the heritage, fauna and flora of Auris and Écrins National Park. This offer depends on the season and program. The formats differ: the Sentier du Bucheron is an ethnobotanical trail through the Forêt de Piégut, while the half-day tours focus on heritage, fauna and flora.
