You can reach Pont Coppet from the entrance to Vallières on foot or by bicycle via a stone path. The bridge was built in 1626 and has been classified as a historic monument since November 4, 2015. It offers a tangible point of interest if you would like to include architectural history alongside scenery and activities on your trip.

Historic sites in Chavanne

The ruins of the Saint-André chapel or church in Chavanne, in the Val de Fier, are also among the area's historic sites. They are said to be the remains of a sanctuary built by monks from Saint-Claude around 450. In the 12th century, Benedictine monks rebuilt the sanctuary. The two dates refer to distinct phases: an attributed early origin and a later reconstruction.

Views and trails in the Val de Fier

The Croix de Chavanne viewpoint offers views of the Albanais plain, Grand Colombier, the Bauges massif and the Fier River. The Chavanne site is easily reached from the village of Chavanne in the Val de Fier.

The “Les Balcons de la Montagne des Princes” hike offers numerous viewpoints over the Albanais plain, the Défilé du Val de Fier and the surrounding mountain ranges. If you would rather focus on a hike than on a single viewpoint, it is an option in its own right.

The Défilé du Val de Fier is a scenic, 5 km-long road that connects the Albanais with the Haut-Rhône area and overlooks the Fier River.

Mountain biking

The “Circuit 2 – Les Vergers” mountain bike loop starts in Vallières-sur-Fier. The 11 km route has 170 m of elevation gain and is rated very easy. It runs mostly along paths beside the orchards typical of the Albanais. The loop is open year-round, weather and ground conditions permitting.

Near the Fier, a 150 m detour from the loop leads to Pont Coppet. The route also takes you close to Thomas Le Prince, a company specializing in fruit processing. Its products are available from a direct-sale shop; check the information about direct sales before setting off.

Visits to Les Paturettes

Les Paturettes offers guided visits where you can learn about the needs of the farm animals, get close to them and care for them. Check booking and access conditions before your visit. During school holidays, morning activities are available for children aged 4 to 12: they learn how to care for, feed and brush the animals. Animal-assisted activities for children and adults are available on request.

Planning times

Two timings are useful for planning: the loop takes about an hour, while the walk from the village of Chavanne in the Val de Fier to the Chavanne site takes 15 minutes. This helps distinguish the duration of the entire cycling route from the time needed for this individual walk.
