Saint-Jorioz lies on the shore of Lake Annecy and within the Bauges Regional Natural Park. When choosing a hotel in the town, you can consider the experiences you want to shape your stay: time by the lake, routes through varied landscapes, or cultural insights into how people lived and worked in the past. For time by the lake, the municipal beach and cycling promenade are good options.
Lakeshore and routes
The Sentier des Roselières passes through one of the largest reed beds on Lake Annecy. Numerous waterbirds live in this protected area. The Patérier loop leads to the agricultural hamlet of Patérier, through varied landscapes and to viewpoints overlooking the lake. Saint-Jorioz also has a cycling promenade along the lake. The two routes offer different highlights: the Sentier focuses on the reed beds and birdlife, while the Patérier loop showcases the hamlet, landscape and lake views. The promenade offers a separate way to explore the lakeshore by bike.
The municipal beach
Saint-Jorioz’s municipal beach is a large sandy and grassy beach with views of the Dents de Lanfon and La Tournette. Facilities include volleyball and pétanque courts, a diving platform, jetties and children’s play equipment. The beach therefore brings together a range of recreational activities in one place. A ramp leads to the water, and two amphibious chairs make access easier for people with reduced mobility. Both chairs are provided free of charge.
The church and access to the Patérier loop
The Patérier loop starts at Saint-Jorioz church, which is part of the commune’s architectural heritage. When travelling from the direction of Annecy, use the Mairie stop as a landmark; from the direction of Doussard, use the Gendarmerie stop. Both stops are served by bus routes 15A-B or Y51.
A glimpse into life in the past
The Maison de Pays du Laudon displays objects from everyday life and the working world of the past in a 19th-century farmhouse. Exhibits include agricultural tools, a cheese dairy, a kitchen, a reconstructed classroom and a bedroom. Work, food preparation, schooling and home life offer different ways to explore the everyday subjects represented in the exhibits. While the church represents the area’s architectural heritage, the Maison de Pays focuses on objects and spaces from everyday life and work.
Plan your stay around your interests
When choosing a hotel, it helps to distinguish between the different highlights: the beach and cycling promenade offer activities by the lake, the routes focus on landscape and nature, and the Maison de Pays explores the history of everyday life and work.
