Reignier-Esery offers several ways to enjoy a stay: a diverse natural area, hikes and short walks, historic buildings, and seasonal activities. To plan your visit, it helps to decide first which of these themes interest you most. This lets you distinguish between the options by landscape, activity, culture, or season.
Natural Area and Biodiversity
The Plaine des Rocailles also extends across Reignier-Esery. It is classified as a type I ZNIEFF and has been designated a sensitive natural area by the département since 2019. Its landscape mosaic includes dry areas, wetlands, forests, and pastures. It also encompasses a variety of habitats, flora, and fauna. The natural area is therefore particularly appealing to travelers who want to explore different habitats and landscapes.
Another connection to biodiversity is the “Golf pour la Biodiversité” label: Golf Club Esery – Grand Genève has held it since 2018. If the distinction is important to your travel plans, check its current certification status before your visit.
Hiking and Short Walks
The Randonnée Saveurs & Paysages is a family hike launched in 2010. Its route changes every year, and the routes are 12 kilometers long on average. This average therefore does not describe the route of every individual edition. If you plan to take part in this hike, check the details for the edition in question.
The event includes four tasting stations featuring soup, meat, cheese, and drinks, all made exclusively with local products. In this way, the hike combines exercise with tastings. For shorter walks, the “Bancs récitants” project offers two routes in Reignier and Ésery that run through the surrounding area. These routes are specifically intended for short walks, providing an alternative to the hike, which averages 12 kilometers.
Jean Poinsignon created eleven sound capsules for “Bancs récitants” in Reignier-Esery. The project thus adds a cultural element to your walking plans. The sound capsules and the two short routes are different features of the offering; the stated length of the walks should not be confused with the average route length of the hike.
Building History and Getting Your Bearings
The square stone tower of Bellecombe is 25 meters high and served as the keep of the castle. A keep is the fortified main tower of a castle; the term explains the tower’s former function. The Château de Polinges has a different history: the castle collapsed on February 2, 1977. The two entrance towers remain; they were restored along with the patio connecting them.
The Oratoire St Ange is located at 1461 Rue de Saint-Ange in Reignier-Esery. The precise address gives you a specific reference point if you include this building in your plans.
Seasonal Activities
Acro’Aventures Reignier offers four courses: the Grand Parcours, the Parcours Junior, the Parcours enfant, and the Acro Filet. There are also seasonal treasure hunts and an orienteering course offered from April to August. As the availability of seasonal activities may change, check which options are available for your dates before visiting.
The Ferme des 4 Saisons also offers a seasonal activity: every spring, visitors can pick their own fruit and vegetables there. Harvest times and available produce may vary, so check in advance what will be available during your planned visit.
