Megève combines winter sports with marked hiking trails, cultural history and a connection to Alpine cuisine. When choosing when to travel, it is worth considering your main interests: some activities are specifically tied to a season, while others help you learn about the area’s history and landscape.

Winter sports: slopes, ski touring and telemark skiing

The Évasion Mont-Blanc ski area has more than 400 km of interconnected slopes. The Portes-du-Mont-Blanc ski area connects Megève, in the Jaillet area, with Combloux and La Giettaz. In winter, ski touring and telemark skiing are also available in Megève. This means you can choose from two other winter sports in addition to skiing on the slopes. If you are planning your trip around these activities, check the latest operating information in advance: operational details and connections may change.

Hiking and activities on the water

Megève’s marked hiking trail network covers more than 150 km. Guided hikes focus on themes such as Alpine flora, the landscape and local history. These themes can help you choose a guided hike; individual options may vary by season. So check what is available for your travel dates.

Guided Aqua-Rando offers a different way to get moving. Participants walk directly in the bed of a watercourse, with the water reaching no higher than knee level. Unlike hiking on trails, this activity takes place directly in the watercourse. Aqua-Rando is available seasonally. If you would like to include this experience in your plans, check whether it is offered during your travel dates.

Calvaire and other cultural sites

The Calvaire de Megève is listed as a historic monument. Fifteen chapels and oratories are located on the lower mountain slopes. The Musée de l’Ermitage du Calvaire is an interpretation centre for the site and presents the history of its restorations. This gives the museum a distinct focus within the Calvaire: it highlights the restoration history of this protected site. It also offers a virtual tour of the chapels.

During the season, the Guides du Patrimoine Savoie Mont Blanc offer several guided tours in Megève, including tours of chapels, old washhouses, old farms and old bread ovens. Exact dates may vary; check the programme for your travel dates. The Church of Saint John the Baptist and its distinctive bell tower are also among Megève’s sights. Alongside the Calvaire, there are other cultural themes to explore, from historic buildings to places associated with everyday life in the past.

Alpine cuisine and seasonal planning

At Toquicimes, Michelin-starred chefs, dedicated artisans, local producers and food enthusiasts share their knowledge and passion for Alpine cuisine. This gives a stay a different focus from winter sports or cultural heritage. Programme details vary with each edition. If you would like to plan your trip around it, check the dates and programme for the relevant edition.

For getting around the village, the free Meg-Bus shuttles are useful to know about when planning: they connect the main areas of Megève in summer and winter. Routes and frequency may vary by season. So if you are considering Megève as a place to stay, take both your main interests and the time of year into account when planning. If you intend to use the shuttle connections, check the information applicable to your travel dates.
