Tulette combines village history with municipal walking and hiking trails, as well as specific wine and market offerings. The Church of Saint-Pierre, the Tour Sarrazine and the priory represent different historical periods. There is also a museum covering a broad span of time and routes through forests and vineyards. When planning your visit, you can decide whether to focus on architectural history, a signposted route or a wine visit arranged in advance.

Architectural History and Museum

The Church of Saint-Pierre dates back to the 11th century; it was completely rebuilt in 1633. It is open every day throughout the year. The Tour Sarrazine predates the town walls, which were built in the 14th century. The priory’s history reaches back to the 13th century: it was built then and belonged to the Abbey of Cluny through the Priory of Saint-Saturnin-du-Port. A historic staircase and a communal well are also among the features preserved there. These buildings provide an overview of different periods without reducing their history to a single era.

The Musée de la Figurine Paul Cibert offers a historical overview from prehistory to the present day. Its exhibits include a 21 m² diorama of the Battle of Moskowa; the collection also features depictions of the fantastic. Thus, a specific historical event and fantastic motifs sit alongside a broad historical overview in the same museum. Another aspect of local history is represented by the waterwheel installation: it is the last of more than twenty waterwheels and powered a metalworking shop that made press screws. This brings into focus not only religious and architectural heritage, but also a specific craft use of the waterwheel.

Trails Through Forests and Vineyards

Three municipal trails for walkers and hikers have been signposted in Tulette. One of the described routes is “Les hauts de Tulette, vers Saint Léger”: the 9 km trail passes through forests and vineyards. “Vers les rives d’Eygues” is 12.4 km long and marked in red. The “De silhouettes en silhouettes – Balade des Remparts à l’Hérein” hike takes you through the history of the village and the vineyards around Tulette. Two of these descriptions focus on a specific route length, while the third is characterised by its connection to the village’s history and vineyards. The routes can therefore be distinguished by length, marking and theme.

Wine Tastings and Market Day

The wine offerings also vary in the type of visit. The Costebelle cooperative winery offers wine tastings and sells Côtes-du-Rhône wines; cellar tours are available by appointment. The cooperative was founded in 1925. At Domaine Corinne Depeyre, a visit by appointment includes the cellar and estate, a wine tasting and organic local refreshments. Wine tastings there are available on weekdays and weekends by appointment. Domaine Les Asseyras offers free individual wine tastings. It has been run as a family estate for four generations since the 19th century. Arrange visits and tastings that require an appointment in advance; prior confirmation of arrangements is also recommended for Costebelle’s visitor offerings and tastings at Les Asseyras.

The Monday market takes place every Monday morning at Place du Cours. Depending on the season, 30 to 60 traders and producers gather there. The changing number of vendors makes the market a seasonal point of interest. If you want to plan your visit around it, check the market arrangements before travelling.
