Three themes can shape a stay in Autichamp: architectural history, scenic views, and routes with different itineraries. Church and castle remains offer a historical perspective; from the Table d’Orientation, the view stretches from the Vercors to the Marsanne Forest. Two named routes can be distinguished by their itineraries. This lets you choose the focus of your stay based on what interests you most on site, rather than combining every point into a single itinerary.

Churches, Castle and Bridge

The Ancien clocher offers a glimpse into 13th-century architectural history: it was built as part of the former Saint-Sébastien church. At the same time, the tower is the setting for an ongoing tradition: a local resident still rings the Angelus there almost every day. The Saint John the Baptist church belongs to a different phase of construction. It was built in the 18th century using remains of the earlier 14th-century church. The 13th-century tower and the later church incorporating reused older remains can therefore be viewed as distinct stages in the history of the buildings.

Notable remains of the 13th-century castle include the Porte de France and the adjoining massive tower. A local artist gave the south gate the name Porte de France. The name therefore refers to the gate, while the massive tower is a separate adjoining remnant of the castle complex. This makes it possible to understand the castle not only as a whole, but also through a named gate and a specific adjoining remnant.

The Pont roman was built over the La Grenette River during the Renaissance. It was fully restored in 2004 and received the “Les rubans du patrimoine” award. Its construction and restoration therefore belong to two clearly distinct historical periods: the bridge’s history stretches from its origins in the Renaissance to its fully completed restoration in 2004.

Views and Routes

The Table d’Orientation is in the town centre, on the square in front of the former church. Its panorama stretches from the cliffs of the Vercors to the Marsanne Forest. From Autichamp, you can also enjoy a view of the Massif de Saoû and the 3 Becs. A specifically named viewpoint and views of distinctive landscape features can therefore both be highlights of a stay.

The historic Roynac–Autichamp hiking trail can also be started in Autichamp and descends towards the village of Autichamp. The Courbière route crosses the Grenette stream via a stone bridge and then climbs into the forest. The differences are clear when choosing a route: the Roynac–Autichamp trail is characterised by its downhill course towards the village, while Courbière follows a different sequence, crossing the stream before climbing into the forest. You can compare the routes by their itineraries. The water features also have distinct names: the Pont roman was built over the La Grenette River, while Courbière crosses the Grenette stream.
