Biziat combines striking buildings and cultural history with routes and agricultural offerings. The Maison des Brahelis showcases a distinctive building style, the Église Saint-Clair its stained glass; the Moulin de Péroux tells the story of early electrification. If you are planning a stay, you will also find practical information on cycling routes, walks and farm offerings.

Half-timbering and rammed earth at the Maison des Brahelis

The Maison des Brahelis is a village house dating from the late 16th century. It was built partly using half-timbering with earth infill and partly from rammed earth. An open gallery surrounds the house on three sides. This brings two different building methods together in one building: half-timbering with earth infill and rammed earth. Historically, the Maison was part of a large agricultural estate that remained in operation until 1962. The house therefore links its architectural history with Biziat’s agricultural past.

Church windows with varied motifs and dates

The Église Saint-Clair is first mentioned in 875. Its most notable stained-glass window depicts the Resurrection of Christ. Another window portrays Saint Joseph and was created by the Lyon glassmakers Pare and Aubriot. There are also five decorative windows in the nave, as well as the upper section of window 8, made by Bessac of Grenoble in 1919. The church thus offers several specific points of interest for anyone interested in stained glass: a central religious motif, a window by known artists, and works from a clearly stated year.

From mill to power station

The Moulin de Péroux lies mostly within the commune of Biziat; part of an outbuilding is in Vonnas. Around 1900, a company acquired the mill and converted it into a power station. The former plant was the first to supply Vonnas, Neuville and Châtillon-sur-Chalaronne with electric light. The mill’s history thus leads from an agriculturally oriented site to a technological chapter that involved several communes.

Routes and mountain biking options

The mountain biking loop starts at Place de la Mairie. You can choose between a 10-kilometre option marked green throughout and a 13-kilometre option where the green markings are followed by red. The difference is three kilometres; on the longer option, the marking colour also changes. Check the markings locally before setting off. For walks in the Veyle area, there is a leaflet titled “Sur les chemins de randonnées au coeur de la Veyle”. It was produced by the Communauté de communes des Bords de Veyle and is available from the Biziat town hall secretariat and the Vonnas tourist office.

Farm offerings and places to buy

Organic vegetables are sold directly from the farm at Ferme du Marronnier. Earl du Lavoir – Maison Deroche offers tourists farm visits on request. The farm also takes part in the Glorieuses de Bresse competitions every December. Its processed Bresse poultry products, sold through short supply chains, include rillettes, galantines and Bresse chicken in cream sauce.

The Les Bonbons du Moulin boutique in Biziat is currently being renovated in 2026. Products are sold online, at markets and through a network of retailers. Check the current sales channels before your visit. When looking for hotels in Biziat, you can consider what you would like to focus on: cultural history, cycling routes and farm offerings provide different ways to make the most of your time here.
