Menerbes offers travelers several distinct reasons to stay: historic architecture, a museum devoted to a specific subject, and truffle and wine experiences. The Église Saint-Luc and the Porte Saint-Sauveur each highlight different aspects of the town’s history. The Musée du Tire-Bouchon focuses on a specific collection, while the Maison de la Truffe et du Vin du Luberon brings together a historic building, wine and regional products. When planning, it helps to prioritize these themes according to your interests: architecture, museum visits and culinary experiences offer different focuses.

Church Art, Fortifications and Ancient History

The Église Saint-Luc was rebuilt after the Wars of Religion in the 16th century, probably on the site of an earlier Saint-Sauveur priory. The church is distinguished by characteristic features of late Gothic architecture in southern France; its painted triumphal arch depicts the Triumph of the Eucharist. The building can thus be viewed both in light of the site’s possible earlier history and through the specific image it displays.

The Porte Saint-Sauveur is a 16th-century fortified gate that was incorporated into Menerbes’ medieval defensive walls. It adds the defensive role of the town to the picture of its religious architecture. The Dolmen de la Pitchoune is considered the only Neolithic funerary monument in the Vaucluse department. It therefore represents a much earlier period alongside the history of the church and gate.

Collection and Botanical Garden

The Musée du Tire-Bouchon displays corkscrews dating from the 17th century onward, including some unique pieces. The collection is presented in more than 50 display cases. Visitors can explore independently; guided tours are available from the museum on request.

The Jardin Botanique des Domaine de La Citadelle covers five hectares and includes six restored traditional terraces. You can explore the garden independently or join a guided tour on request. The difference between the two visits is clear: the museum presents a collection in display cases, while the garden is a sprawling site with several terraces. If a guided tour is important to you, request one separately for the museum or the garden.

Truffles, Wine and Regional Products

The Maison de la Truffe et du Vin du Luberon is located in the listed 17th-century HĂ´tel d'Astier de Montfaucon in Menerbes. Its vaulted cellar offers 170 wines from local producers, and its gourmet food boutique specializes in truffles and regional products. The Maison also serves platters of local products and regional wines in its French garden. Its offerings therefore include wine and gourmet products as well as food served in the garden. The selection of products and dishes may change; if a particular offering is important to you, check the current selection in advance.

Market, Concerts and Practical Information

The Menerbes truffle market has traditionally taken place on the last Sunday of the year at Place de l'Horloge since 1997. As the specific calendar date varies from year to year, check the date for your travel year. Les Musicales du Luberon holds concerts in Menerbes in spring and summer, as well as at the truffle market at the end of the year, featuring classical, lyrical or sacred music. If a concert is important to your trip, check the current program in advance.

The Menerbes intercommunal tourist office provides a town map and information about local museums and activities. If you plan to visit in person, check the opening hours beforehand.
