Fine sand at Plage des Lecques, a coastal path starting at Calanque de Port d’Alon and a museum built on the remains of a Roman villa in a pine grove overlooking the sea reveal different sides of Saint-Cyr-Sur-Mer. In the town centre, contemporary art and “Miss Liberty” add to the picture; in the Les Lecques district, a chapel bears witness to local history. Two wineries also offer tours or tastings. This makes it easy to tailor your stay to your interests: the coast, culture, archaeological history or wine.

Sandy beach and pebble coastline

Plage des Lecques is a large, family-friendly beach with fine sand. The landscaped Promenade Rose runs along the nearly two-kilometre stretch of sand. The coastal setting changes at Calanque de Port d’Alon: its pebble beach lies away from the built-up area, and the calanque is the starting point for the coastal path. Beach type and connection to the path are clear differences when choosing between the two coastal spots: Lecques offers fine sand and a promenade, while Port d’Alon offers a pebble beach and the start of a coastal path. Access rules for Port d’Alon may change; check them before your visit.

Art, a chapel and Roman history

“Miss Liberty”, an original model of the Statue of Liberty signed by Auguste Frédéric Bartholdi, stands on Place Portalis in the town centre. The Centre d’Art Sébastien was once a caper factory and has been dedicated to contemporary art since 1993. Its temporary exhibitions showcase contemporary work and Provençal artists. Chapelle des Lecques is a small building close to the sea in the Les Lecques district and bears witness to local history.

Musée Gallo-Romain de Tauroentum was built on the remains of a Roman villa in a pine grove overlooking the sea. A visit offers an insight into the daily life of the inhabitants of a villa maritima in the 1st century AD. The museum visit thus takes you from the visible remains to an impression of life in the villa. Opening arrangements may vary, so check them before your visit.

Paths through geology and history

Sentier patrimonial de la pointe Grenier begins at the far end of Port de la Madrague. Beyond Reinette beach, the route passes a rare petrifying spring where travertine forms. It also leads to restored remains of a military battery, including a chapel, a powder magazine, barracks and a watchtower. Its geological feature and military-historical structures offer different points of interest along the route. Check route conditions before setting out.

Sentier des Vignes is a two-kilometre circular route from La Madrague to Port d’Alon. Its length and circular format provide a clear basis for choosing a route. Those more interested in geological and historical points of interest will find them on Sentier patrimonial de la pointe Grenier. The two paths therefore differ in the details most relevant to planning: the stated length of Sentier des Vignes, and the described points of interest on Sentier patrimonial.

Discover local wines

Bandol wines are among the offerings at both Domaine du Cagueloup and Domaine de l’Estagnol. Cagueloup also offers tastings of AOP Côtes de Provence wines and IGP wines from Mont Caume. Groups can visit the wine cellar and vineyards by prior arrangement; the tasting takes place on the terrace afterwards. Domaine de l’Estagnol offers tours and tastings of Bandol wines and French wines. For group visits to Cagueloup, prior arrangement is part of the planning.
