The Lône runs through Meounes-Les-Montrieux and powered oil, flour, and sumac mills there for centuries. This historic connection between the town and its work provides a good starting point for understanding the destination’s walks and history of historic monuments.

Choose walks and hikes

The Route Autour de la Vierge is a very easy 4.1-kilometer circular route with a stated duration of 1 hour and 30 minutes. It alternates between village streets and forest paths and offers a way to explore Meounes-Les-Montrieux’s heritage. Seasonal access restrictions may apply in the forest on this route; check current conditions before setting out.

A shorter alternative is the Circuit botanique: an easy 2.7-kilometer walk, estimated to take about 1 hour and 15 minutes. It starts and ends at the church square. Its stated duration is therefore close to that of the Route Autour de la Vierge, while the distance and character differ: this walk focuses on botanical features, whereas the other alternates between village streets and forest paths.

For a longer outing, there are two more routes to choose from. Le GaragaĂŻ du Signoret is 12 kilometers long, rated moderate, and listed as taking four hours; it starts and ends at the Forum parking lot. The Sentiers de Peyferrier et Maupas is an easy 5-kilometer walking route with a duration of two hours, also starting at the Forum parking lot. The stated times therefore range from about 1 hour and 15 minutes to four hours. When planning, you can weigh distance, duration, and difficulty together rather than treating these routes as equivalent walks.

Church, fountain, and historic sites

The Église de Saint-Eutrope dates from the 16th century; construction began in 1540. The Fontaine des quatre saisons is also listed as a historic monument. Four masks represent the seasons and channel water into a basin. Their depiction offers a clear explanation of the fountain’s name.

La Vierge du Château stands on the summit of the former medieval village. The statue now standing there was erected in 1997. Visitors interested in local history will find two distinct periods represented here: the former village’s medieval origins and the date of the present-day statue.

The Chartreuse de Montrieux was established in 1137. Only the reception building and a small chapel are open to the public; check the current visiting conditions before your visit. The Chartreuse de Montrieux-le-Vieux is a separate site: its chapel was classified as a historic monument by decree on February 25, 1980. The remains of the former abbey were listed on the same day, with the exception of the part already classified. The different designations preserve an important distinction between classification and listing.

Plan for the landscape and getting there

The Morières-Montrieux forest covers 2,273 hectares and has a rich natural heritage. Along with the forest paths on the Route Autour de la Vierge, it offers a landscape experience alongside the town’s streets and historic buildings. Seasonal access restrictions may apply in the forest; bear this in mind when planning this circular route.

Bus route 849 between Saint-Maximin and Toulon serves the Méounes Centre stop. As timetables and routes may change, check both before traveling. This is especially useful if you want to plan your day around a specific connection.

Choose accommodation to suit your daily schedule

If you are looking for a hotel or other accommodation in Meounes-Les-Montrieux, first decide what kind of day trips you plan to take. The shorter walks are listed as taking about 1 hour and 15 minutes and 1 hour and 30 minutes, respectively; the two routes starting at the Forum parking lot take two and four hours. These differences give you a practical way to gauge the extent of your planned activities. Also consider the stated difficulty levels and possible seasonal access restrictions on the Route Autour de la Vierge.
