Almost three kilometres of sandy beaches and an underwater discovery trail give La Londe-Les-Maures a distinct coastal focus, alongside protected nature and places with a long history. When choosing a hotel, it is worth first considering whether you are most interested in beaches and marine life, wildlife and plants, or historic paths. The attractions also differ in when and under what conditions they can be visited.

Sandy beaches and life underwater

The almost three kilometres of sandy beaches look out towards Porquerolles, Port-Cros and Le Levant. The Jardin des Mattes underwater discovery trail offers a different way to experience the coast. It extends from zero to four metres deep and includes seagrass meadows of Posidonia and Cymodocea, as well as rocks, sand and gravel. These habitats are home to numerous fish, molluscs, crustaceans and starfish. This brings two distinct perspectives together: island views from the beaches and diverse habitats underwater.

From June to September, you can explore the underwater discovery trail independently and free of charge by following the numbered buoys. Guided tours are available through the tourist office. Exploring independently and joining a guided tour are therefore two ways to visit the trail; dates for guided tours may change.

Parks and wildlife viewing

The Espace Naturel Sensible de la Brûlade offers more than six hectares of protected nature in the heart of La Londe-Les-Maures. The Jardin des Oliviers offers a different experience: this public park is open year-round and free to visit, and is known for its centuries-old olive trees. Free open-air concerts are held there on Tuesdays in July and August. The concert programme is seasonal and may change.

At the Jardin Zoologique Tropical, you can see lemurs, squirrel monkeys, African tortoises and meerkats; there is also a mini-farm. A 1,300-metre circular route passes through the arboretum. At certain times, animal feeding sessions take place with the keepers. Children can enjoy a treasure hunt with a changing theme, as well as a picnic area and a play area. Wildlife viewing, the trail and the other activities each offer a different focus for a visit.

Coastal path and prehistoric dolmen

The Sentier du littoral: L'Argentière / Fort de Brégançon begins at the eastern end of L'Argentière beach. Its yellow markings lead past the beaches of Pellegrin and Estagnol towards Fort de Brégançon. The Dolmen de Gaoutabry, by contrast, is a prehistoric destination: this collective tomb was discovered in 1876 and used at the end of the Neolithic period (2800 BC) and the beginning of the Copper Age (2000 BC). It was added to the inventory of historic monuments in 1988.

The dolmen is reached via the D88, followed by a 2.3-kilometre walk with an elevation gain of 150 metres. The path is marked in blue; free parking is available. Access may be restricted depending on the seasonal forest fire risk plan. Check access conditions before planning your visit.

When to visit and how to find a hotel

The seasonal information can help you plan your stay around specific experiences: June to September is the period to consider for independently exploring the underwater discovery trail; free open-air concerts at the Jardin des Oliviers are scheduled for Tuesdays in July and August. Check current tour and concert dates before your visit. If you are visiting the dolmen, also take into account the possibility of seasonal access restrictions.

If you are looking for a hotel in La Londe-Les-Maures, start with your travel dates and the experience that matters most to you. This will help you factor beaches and underwater life, park and wildlife visits, or historic paths into your stay, while keeping the different seasonal and access conditions in mind.
