Brignoles offers a range of ways to enjoy a stay: historic streets and buildings, a weekly market, and cycling routes with different trail profiles. A walk around the town brings its history to the fore; when planning routes, it is important to consider the specific trail conditions.

Historic Centre and Architectural History

Brignoles town centre has been designated a Site Patrimonial Remarquable since 20 June 2020. The designation is based on a ministerial decree dated 15 June 2020. The historic centre has older streets with steps and vaulted passageways. Explore the old streets on foot to discover traces of the town’s long history; gates and gateways dating from the 13th and 14th centuries are also part of its built heritage.

The Palais des Comtes de Provence tells another story of the town’s architecture: initially designed as a defensive structure, it was transformed into a comital residence from the mid-13th century onwards. The Chapelle Notre-Dame d’Espérance has a bronze and iron bell dating from 1556. It was designated a Monument historique in 1982.

For the chapel, the 2025 heritage programme lists a walking route from the Sant Sumian car park. It is steep and not accessible to people with reduced mobility. Check the current opening arrangements before visiting. Several dolmens north of the Carami Valley form a Neolithic funerary landscape. The route to them is also very steep; hiking or mountaineering boots are recommended.

Sightseeing and Local Life

The Micro-Folie offers both self-guided visits and guided visits in a conference-style format. Bilingual signs in Provençal and French are displayed at the town entrances. A market is held every week in the centre, where you can meet local producers and discover their craftsmanship.

The Médiévales are also part of Brignoles’ events calendar: in 2026, they reached their 27th edition. If you would like to combine your trip with the event, check the dates for your stay.

Cycling Routes and Different Trail Profiles

The Vélo Vigne & Abbaye cycling route is 20.5 kilometres long and rated very easy. It starts at the tourist office at Carrefour de l’Europe in Brignoles and passes through the Vallon de Pourraque, the Val de Camps plain and vineyard landscapes. Check the tourism information about the route before setting off, as conditions and safety guidance may change.

The Hameau des Censiés cycling loop runs between vineyards, woodland, olive trees and small streams. It offers views of the Montagne de la Loube; seasonal conditions may vary. Another route, Du train à la mine, runs from Brignoles along a former railway line to the Musée des Gueules Rouges in nearby Tourves.

There is a clear difference between these active options: the path to the dolmens is very steep, whereas the 20.5-kilometre Vélo Vigne & Abbaye route is rated very easy. Take these trail conditions into account when planning.
