Baudinard-Sur-Verdon combines striking landscapes with tangible cultural and historical landmarks. There are two distinct focuses to consider when choosing where to stay: the Gorges de Baudinard, with its canyon and hiking trails, and the chapels, oratories and Eglise Saint-Jacques. When planning a trip, you can therefore first decide whether nature experiences or architectural and religious history should take priority.
Canyon, trails and views
The Gorges de Baudinard form a 13-kilometre-long canyon with turquoise water. The rock faces are approximately 100 to 150 metres high, making a striking impression on the landscape. The 13-kilometre-long Sentier des Basses Gorges runs along the canyon and offers panoramic views. This lets you combine views of the canyon with a specific hiking route.
Another option is the Belvédère Domaine des Eouvières. The walk there is about 1.4 kilometres long and takes approximately 30 minutes one way. The route follows the GR®99 and the “Chapelle Notre-Dame de Baudinard” hiking trail. This gives you different details to work with when planning: the length of the Sentier des Basses Gorges and the one-way distance and walking time to the viewpoint.
The forest as a distinct landscape feature
The Domaine des Eouvières, a holm oak forest covering more than 800 hectares, is also part of the natural landscape. The woodland adds a different type of nature to the canyon scenery. If you are considering Baudinard-Sur-Verdon primarily for its landscapes, you can distinguish between the Gorges and the holm oak forest as two different focal points.
Chapels, oratories and church
The route to the Chapelle Notre-Dame de Baudinard is lined with oratories. These religious roadside markers are therefore among the specific cultural landmarks along the route, as is the chapel itself. The Chapelle Notre-Dame de la Garde is a separate landmark and should not be confused with it; it is said to have been built in 1599.
The Eglise Saint-Jacques dates from the 11th century and was restored in 1921 and 2006. It houses three paintings, two of which are classified. This makes it possible to place its history in context: its medieval origins were followed by restorations in two later centuries. The paintings are another part of the cultural heritage described here.
Include a route in your plans
One stage of the “Tour du lac de Sainte-Croix” runs from Baudinard to Bauduen. If you include this stage in your travel plans, check the route conditions in advance, as they can vary. The section named here gives your plans a clear starting point and destination without implying a fixed daily itinerary.
The stage to Bauduen can also factor into your plans if you are considering a route that takes you through more than one place. This lets you choose a hotel in Baudinard-Sur-Verdon to suit the kind of trip you have in mind.
