Saint-Georges-de-Noisné brings together architectural history, paths through the bocage landscape and water sports at Plan d’eau du soleil levant. For planning your trip, the local attractions can be grouped into three themes: historic buildings and places of remembrance, landscapes to explore on foot or horseback, and activities on the water. This can help you decide whether you want your stay to focus more on culture, nature or outdoor activities.

Church, cross and local remembrance

The church of Saint-Georges-de-Noisné was built towards the end of the 11th century or the beginning of the 12th century, when it was under the authority of Saint-Maixent Abbey. In the 15th century, a lower side aisle with four bays was added on its north side. The early church and the later extension can therefore be identified as two distinct phases of construction. A side aisle runs parallel to the nave and extends the church space to the side; its lower height sets the addition apart as a separate section.

The Hosannière cross is more than six metres high and has been listed as a historic monument since 1889. Its height gives the cross a clear sense of scale, while the year of its listing also places it within the local history of heritage protection.

The Chapelle de la Salette is now privately owned. Its portal has two archivolts and a splayed archivolt. For those interested in historic architectural features, this is a striking detail; as the chapel is privately owned, do not assume it is open to the public.

A roadside monument near Cathelogne commemorates Paul Drevin and Paul Veillon. It is part of the local remembrance of the Resistance and adds another historical theme to the area’s architectural heritage.

Valley views, sunken lanes and bocage landscapes

The eastern edge of Saint-Georges-de-Noisné borders the Chambon valley, which offers panoramic views across the valley landscape. These views provide a distinct landscape experience alongside the walking routes.

The commune’s sunken lanes are used for walking and horse riding. The Les vallons de Gâtine circular route links nine hamlets across the bocage landscape and includes several viewpoints, ponds and washhouses. If you are looking for a particular focus, you can choose between valley panoramas, the sunken lanes for walking or riding, and a circular route featuring a variety of landscapes and local landmarks.

Walkers may cross the private grounds at Cathelogne through a passage beside the barrier. Check the access conditions on site before setting out.

Water sports at Plan d’eau du soleil levant

The Cercle de voile de la Touche Poupard offers water sports at Plan d’eau du soleil levant. These include sailing with your own equipment or equipment available on site; options mentioned are catamaran, canoe and Optimist dinghy. Adapted activities for different groups are also available. This offers a different focus from hiking or horse riding: you can plan your trip around the landscape on land or time spent on the water. Check the specific operating arrangements before you arrive.
