Fouquebrune offers several distinct points of interest for a stay: the open Plaine de Fouquebrune, paths with different features, historic churches and the Ferme des Templiers farm. When planning, you can consider landscape, outdoor activities, architectural history and local produce separately. This lets you decide which themes you would like to spend more time on during your stay, without turning them into a fixed itinerary for every visit.

Open countryside and paths

The Plaine de Fouquebrune ZNIEFF area extends across Fouquebrune and Magnac-Lavalette-Villars. The plain is an open landscape shaped by cereal farming. It is home to the main species found in the region's open plains and provides a habitat for animal and plant populations. The Puy de Courolle route offers a different connection with the landscape: it follows a public path, reopened in 2001, into one of the few wooded areas in the commune of Fouquebrune. This brings together two distinct natural settings: an open, agricultural plain and a path into a wooded area.

Walks and circular trails

The Circuit des Étangs is an easy walk of around two hours that starts in Fouquebrune. The approximate duration can help you plan your day; trail conditions may vary. Check the route before setting out. The Bois et Sentiers circular trail also starts in Fouquebrune. If you would like to plan an easy walk with a rough time estimate, you can include the Circuit des Étangs; Bois et Sentiers is another circular trail with the same starting point.

A distinct landmark on the Route des Templiers is the remains of an iron-rich dolmen, which can be seen near Combe Catin. The dolmen is therefore associated with a specific section of the route. When choosing between the paths, you can take different interests into account: an approximate walking time for the Circuit des Étangs, a wooded area on the Puy de Courolle route, or the dolmen remains near the Route des Templiers.

Churches and historical traces

The parish church of Fouquebrune is dedicated to Saint Maurice, or Saint-Maurice. During the Hundred Years' War, it was altered and fortified to serve as a refuge for the local population when no château fort was nearby. The church is therefore not only a religious landmark, but is also associated with a specific historical role as a place of protection.

Another historic site is the chapel of the former church of Notre-Dame-de-l'Houme. It dates from the late 12th century and has been listed as a historic monument since 1926. The chapel and Saint-Maurice represent different aspects of the local heritage: one is a medieval chapel belonging to a former church, the other a parish church dedicated to Saint Maurice with a history of fortification and providing refuge.

Pizza and farm shop

The Ferme des Templiers serves wood-fired pizzas on Friday evenings, either for takeaway or to eat on site. The organic farm also runs a farm shop on Fridays. Its products include Gascon-type black pork, Solognote lamb, and flour and bread made from its own grain. Opening hours and product availability may change, so check the latest information before your visit.
