Saint-Quentin-Les-Anges can be explored through three specific themes: the stained-glass windows of the Église paroissiale Saint-Quentin, the architectural history of Château de Mortiecrolles and the Circuit du Bourgneuf. The church combines narrative scenes from the life of Saint Quentin with a geometrically designed west window. The château offers a glimpse into late 15th-century architecture, while the walking trail gives a specific time frame with its length, difficulty rating and average duration. You can therefore focus on church art, historic buildings or a walk.

Stained-glass windows in the Église paroissiale Saint-Quentin

Four scenes are depicted in the side lancets of the Église paroissiale Saint-Quentin. They follow the life of Saint Quentin: he receives his mission, preaches in Amiens and suffers martyrdom in 303. 55 years later, his head and body are discovered in the Somme. The sequence spans his mission, preaching and death, followed by the later discovery.

Another stained-glass window, the axial window, also depicts the life of Saint Quentin; the glass artist Auguste Alleaume created it in 1897. The west window takes a different approach: it consists mainly of geometric stained glass with rectangular motifs. Thus, the depiction of the saint’s life and a predominantly geometric window composition stand side by side as distinct styles.

Les Anges and its history

The hamlet of Les Anges developed on a small rocky ridge north of the village of Saint-Quentin-les-Anges, overlooking the village. The hamlet lies partly within the commune of Saint-Quentin-les-Anges. Its origins go back to a Cordeliers monastery founded by Pierre de Rohan, Marshal of Gié, towards the end of the 15th century under the patronage of Notre-Dame des Anges. The ridge describes the hamlet’s location; the monastery’s foundation provides a distinct insight into its history, with a named founder, religious order and patronage.

Château de Mortiecrolles

Château de Mortiecrolles is a fortified château dating from the late 15th century and is listed as a historic monument. It was built at the end of the 15th century by Pierre de Rohan, Marshal of Gié. Its distinctive architectural features include curtain walls faced with brick and tuff, the entrance gate and the chapel. These details connect the château’s historic status with specific elements of its architecture.

Individual tours and self-guided visits are possible at Château de Mortiecrolles; group tours are available on request. Check the visiting arrangements in advance, especially if you are planning a group tour.
