In Ruillé-Froid-Fonds, cultural history and outdoor activity offer distinct options for planning a trip. Château Le Puy brings together historic buildings and outdoor areas; two churches add a cultural perspective. For outdoor activity, there is also the longer Circuit Les Trotteurs. You can therefore plan your stay around sightseeing, a specific visit date or a sporting activity.

Château Le Puy: architectural history and outdoor areas

Château Le Puy was built around 1650 by François du Puy on his land in Froidfont. At the end of the 17th century, he had the chapel added to the château. It has a large tuff stone altarpiece and original 18th-century stained-glass windows, which have been restored. The building’s history and features draw attention to different aspects: the origins of the château and the later addition of the chapel with its restored original windows.

Château Le Puy is listed in the supplementary inventory of historic monuments. The listing covers the buildings of the main courtyard, the large farm buildings, the garden and the park with its hornbeam arbour. The park lies between two ponds, which are connected by the moat beside the garden. The listing thus identifies different parts of the estate, from the farm buildings to the garden and park areas.

The château’s outdoor areas—the chapel, park and gardens—are open to visitors from 15 July to 31 August, from 12 noon to 6 pm, and during the European Heritage Days. Check these visiting hours before your trip if you would like to plan your stay around them.

Château Le Puy is also a stop on the tourist route La Route des Joyaux de la Mayenne. It brings together 14 châteaux, abbeys, mills, parks and gardens for visitors, placing different types of attractions within a shared thematic framework.

Two 12th-century churches

The Église Saint-Gervais-et-Saint-Protais dates from the 12th century and has preserved its Romanesque architecture. The Église Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption de Froid-Fonds is also a 12th-century church; it is dedicated to the Virgin Mary. The two churches from the same century can therefore be distinguished by different features: one has preserved its Romanesque character, while the other is dedicated to Mary.

On 15 August, a mass celebrating the Assumption of Mary is held at the Église Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption de Froid-Fonds. If you would like to plan a trip around this date, confirm the service in advance.
