In Mézangers, architectural and art history, nature and outdoor activities offer a range of ways to explore. Église Saint-Front and Château du Rocher each offer their own historical highlights; at Base de loisirs du Gué de Selle, you’ll find protected landscapes, trails and seasonal summer activities. You can tailor your stay around a sightseeing visit, an outdoor route or your changing interests.

Art and Architectural History

Église Saint-Front has Romanesque origins and preserves numerous historic architectural features. Its rich interior is inspired by Byzantine art and includes numerous wall paintings and remarkable statues. So there is more to see than the church’s architectural history alone: its artistic decoration is also noteworthy. It is open to the public daily and offers visits focused on cultural heritage. A restoration phase was scheduled to begin in September 2026; check access arrangements before your visit.

Château du Rocher is a complex dating from the 15th century and designated a historic monument. It includes an English-style park, a 16th-century chapel and a Renaissance-style gallery. The different features give the estate a variety of architectural and landscape highlights. Self-guided visits of the grounds are possible, but access is seasonal. Check the dates before travelling.

Landscape and Trails

Base de loisirs du Gué de Selle is located in an area designated as a Natura 2000 protected site. The leisure area comprises 30 hectares of woodland and borders a 50-hectare pond. These figures describe two distinct areas: the woodland within the site and the adjacent pond. Together, they give a sense of the landscape that provides the setting for trails and leisure activities.

The marked trails at the base are suitable for walkers, horse riders and mountain bikers. One option is the 3.1-kilometre family trail around the pond. Seasonal activities are also available in summer, including pedal boat and canoe hire, as well as Rosalies, Swin-Golf, electric scooters and laser tag. The options range from a circuit by the water to a variety of summer activities and games.

Another route option is Circuit d'Étiveau N°21, a 17-kilometre circular trail starting in Mézangers. It leads from a quiet pond towards centuries-old hamlets and through the tranquil meadows of Mayenne. Compared with the 3.1-kilometre family trail, it is considerably longer and takes in a different landscape. You can download and print the route for Circuit d'Étiveau N°21.
