A marked trail of about three kilometres, an artificial lake and buildings dating from different centuries give Vieillevigne several concrete points of interest for a stay. South of the town lies Lac des Vallées, designed as a recreation and nature area. The Circuit des Marches de Vendée passes through green meadows and pastures; the historic buildings date from periods ranging from Roman antiquity to the 19th century. Nature, outdoor activities and cultural heritage each offer a different focus.
Lac des Vallées: nature, trails and activities
Lac des Vallées is an artificial lake south of Vieillevigne, designed as a recreation and nature area. A marked trail about three kilometres long runs around the lake and is suitable for walking, cycling or horse riding. Its approximate length gives you a useful reference point when planning your outing.
At the lake, there are opportunities for fishing and picnicking, children's play equipment and a fitness trail. This offers several ways to spend your leisure time: exercise on the circular trail and activities by the lake. As individual facilities may change over time, check which amenities are currently available before your visit.
A municipal notice dated 20 July 2026 describes Lac des Vallées as a refuge for biodiversity and a protected wetland.
Scenery along the Circuit des Marches de Vendée
The Circuit des Marches de Vendée offers a different landscape: it alternates between green meadows and pastures and can also be cycled. Cycling is the activity mentioned for both routes; walking and horse riding are also listed for the trail around the lake. This makes it possible to choose according to the landscape and type of activity you prefer: a waterside circuit or changing meadows and pastures.
Historic heritage and traces of different eras
The Église Notre-Dame de l’Assomption dates from the 19th century. In the municipality’s 2026 presentation, it is described as the historic and spiritual centre of the community and as a testament to centuries of architectural and community life.
The Chapelle Notre-Dame-des-Champs dates from the 12th century, is associated with local traditions and legends, and is set in a protected natural landscape. The church and chapel therefore differ both in their dates and in the associations emphasised: the municipal account presents the church as a symbol of community and spirituality, while the chapel is linked to local traditions and its protected landscape.
The Pont romain de la Roulière dates from the 2nd to 3rd century. The Pont de la Guérinière is a notable structure near the village of Pâtis. The dates place three of the buildings across a long span of time: the bridge provides the earliest point of reference, followed by the chapel and, later, the church. For the Pont de la Guérinière, by contrast, its location near Pâtis is the distinguishing detail.
