At Lac de Savenay, different ways of exploring come together: a walking loop, a floating footbridge, a viewpoint and a lakeside leisure park. Trails and excursion routes also lead further into the landscape of the Loire estuary. For your plans, it is worth distinguishing between activities at the lake and routes with a separate destination.
Leisure and Views at Lac de Savenay
The walking loop around Lac de Savenay takes about 45 minutes. The lake also has a 110-metre-long floating footbridge. The Nid-Observatoire at the lake offers an unusual viewpoint over the landscape of the Loire estuary. During a visit to the lake, walking and views of the landscape are therefore separate highlights.
La Vallée des Korrigans et Tépacap is a four-hectare outdoor leisure park on the shore of Lac de Savenay. Attractions include eleven progressively challenging high-ropes courses, inflatable games, a giant slide, ground-based and skill games, as well as outdoor laser tag and paintball. The range of activities may change; check what is currently available before your visit.
The Pôle de Loisirs du Lac has a well-equipped leisure area for children, with picnic spots and outdoor games. It also includes a water-play garden at the Piscine du Lac. There are also geocaching walks around the site, with various caches. The Piscine du Lac has a 25-metre sports pool with a water temperature of 29°C, a 230 m² leisure pool at 30°C, and a paddling pool. Individual facilities and operating arrangements may change, so check the current conditions before your visit.
Golf and Routes with a Destination
Blue Green – Golf de Savenay has two different course formats: an 18-hole, par-73 course measuring 6,250 metres and a compact 9-hole, par-30 course measuring 1,244 metres. The slope ratings are 141 for men from the white tees and 128 from the yellow tees; for women, they are 133 from the blue tees and 127 from the red tees. Course details may change; check them before making plans.
The Balade des Roselières is an eight-kilometre cycling route through the Marais du Syl. It runs from the Pôle de loisirs du lac de Savenay to the port of Lavau-sur-Loire and goes beyond Savenay. The distinction matters when planning your day: approximately 45 minutes refers to the walking loop around the lake, while eight kilometres refers to the cycling route. These are different routes and measurements, not two figures for the same outing.
The Sentier du Belvédère leads from shaded paths at Lac de la vallée Mabile gradually up to the Sillon de Bretagne. There is a viewpoint over the Loire estuary and the Loire. The lake’s history is also linked to Savenay: Lac de la vallée Mabile was created in 1918, when American soldiers built the dam to supply the town’s military hospital with water.
Garden and Château on the Sillon de Bretagne
The Jardin de Rio Froment surrounds a 19th-century château on the Sillon de Bretagne; the château overlooks the Loire estuary. The garden is private and exceptionally opens to the public during the Journées Européennes du Patrimoine and the Rendez-vous aux jardins. As these openings are tied to the events, check the dates before your visit.
